Prairie Friends

I absolutely love this quote from this piece by Tara Parker Pope in the NYT.
“Last year, researchers studied 34 students at the University of Virginia, taking them to the base of a steep hill and fitting them with a weighted backpack. They were then asked to estimate the steepness of the hill. Some participants stood next to friends during the exercise, while others were alone.
The students who stood with friends gave lower estimates of the steepness of the hill. And the longer the friends had known each other, the less steep the hill appeared.”
That article really made my day. It also made me think how fortunate I am to have so many friends who make the steep hills I come across feel like a flat prairie.
When you are a new parent there is definitely a shift in the time you can spend with your friends - reminded me of this post from last year - Friendshift
It helps to have support and understanding from those who will always be there for you and the new friendships that evolve along the way because of your kids.
Here’s to old “Prairie Friends!”
