A Different Bedtime Routine

If you’re having trouble getting the little ones to bed as the days grow longer, here’s a fun option.
Get them in their pajamas and climb on board the Como-Harriet Streetcar in Linden Hills.
Wild Rumpus is bringing in authors to read to kids above the clatter of the trolley. There’ll be milk and cookies.
Details in this story in the Strib today.

Man - after the bedtime I had last night - BOTH kids getting out of their beds 10,000 times before FINALLY passing out - one on the living room floor at 10:45 pm and 1 on her bedroom rug after 11 pm - I am about ready to jump OFF a train myself! Why is bedtime so hard?? Wait, is that a different post?
Anyway ~ what a CUTE idea! My luck though - the kids would fall asleep on the way home, then wake up during the transfer from car to bed, therefore, starting my crazy train bedtime routine all over again.
::Sigh:: parenthood - who knew it’s be so…fun?
kidding - mostly kidding!
I hear you, Darcie. My two have had a hard time staying in bed too. “Not tired!” they yell. May be time for another Family Conference. I like the train idea a lot but I doubt it’s going to help put anyone to sleep…
My answer to bedtime these days: DAYCAMP! No complaints from either kid since they started on Monday. Total exhaustion. YAY!
This sounds like a blast…but I bet they sell out FAST!!!! Hopefully next year they’ll do it more often…?
Mom’s best friend in the summer nights: melatonin! (It’s the stuff your body produces to tell you when you’re tired, and the stuff they say to use to adjust to jet lag more easily.) Out pediatrician says it’s fine to use (just, not every day) and it’s a sanity saver. For our 2 1/2 year old, we crush a quarter tablet and mix it in her bedtime milk cup. For the 5 year old, she gets a quarter tab to chew. They’re out within 15 minutes. No kidding!
