Day Care Decline

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Last month I walked in the door at my day care providers house - she blurted out worriedly “Do you still have a job!?” she had just heard the news of layoffs and Chapter 11 at my place of employment. She was in the kitchen talking with other mothers about layoffs at their companies. I nodded yes. “Oh good, I worry about you guys, and myself. When the parents lose jobs I lose kids.”
On the front page of today’s Star Tribune Jean Hopfensperger reports that exact situation going on all across the metro area. Day Cares Take Hit

How about you Cribsheeters. Anyone affected by layoffs and pulling kids from day care? Or what is your Plan B for childcare if you were to lose your job?

She is Still Keeping Her Cool

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Colleen Lindstrom, of FM107 wrote to Cribsheet to alert our readers of her brand new blog. “Keeping Her Cool.” I took a glance and commend her for pushing her boundaries (and for her honesty in sharing a few fears - like passing gas in yoga class or perhaps piddlling a bit whilst dancing). Below is her note summarizing her mission for her new blog venture.

I just wanted to tell you about a new project/blog I have started. http://keepinghercool.blogspot.com. I have noticed after years of wifing and parenting, that the opportunities to stretch myself beyond my comfort zone and enrich myself have seemingly disappeared. I decided to do something every week that I’ve either never done before, or have been afraid or nervous to do, pushing myself out of my comfort zone once a week, and blogging about the experience.

What have you done to push yourself out of your comfort zone recently?

Dramatic Kids

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

From Cribsheet’s inbox a few weeks ago….sorry for the time lag…but the question’s still relevant!

Okay, so I’m at work two days before Christmas and needless to say, not working much. My mind was wandering to all the fun activities that will be available to my dramatic and active daughter when she turns 3 in a couple months.   She loves to dance, sing and pretend constantly so I thought I’d research fun preschool dance and theater classes.  Any Cribsheeters out there have some recommendations for a place that offers such classes?
