Brought to you by the letter “K”

sesame.jpgThis dollhouse segment from vintage Sesame Street caused much inner turmoil for me as a child. It set me up, lulled me into a false sense of security with the sweet song, the repetition and the pairs of tiny, little household choking hazards. one..two.. Then there is the camera shot through the window of the cat that foreshadows doom.

My Left Brain was upset that the two little future Martha’s had painstakenly set up that house to perfection and those meddling cats, they ruined everything! My Right Brain delighted in the utter destruction of it all. “Go kitty cats go!”

And why am I sharing this childhood angst and delight with you? Because the “Sesame Street Old School” DVD box set  1969-1974 is being released October 24 and I am counting down the days. Those were my primo viewing years. This is classic stuff. Pre-Elmo, pre-Prairie Dawn, Big Bird was the only one who could see Snuffleupagus, and  *sniff * dear, avuncular Mr. Hooper was still alive.

I’m excited for the nostalgia. I’m excited that the only commercial is that “this show was brought to you by the letter ‘N’ and the number 3.” Most of all I’m excited to share my old favorites with Ben from back in the day when “C” was for cookie, and Rubber Duckie was the one.

Keep checking back with Cribsheet for some favorite vintage Sesame segments.
