Thinking about giving your haircut budget a trim? Is a $50 haircut really that much better than a $10 cut from a budget salon? We’re looking for two men and two women willing to have their hair cut once by their regular stylist and once by a less-expensive stylist. We’ll take a photo after each cut and pay you $50 for being a guinea pig. Contact John Ewoldt at jewoldt@startribune.com or 612-673-7633.

If you like thrift shopping (and who doesn’t?), most of the local thrift stores will be having half-price sales on Labor Day. That means that everything is 50% off the marked price. For those who think “used” clothing is beneath them - the skirt I’m currently wearing still had the tags on it (originally priced at $49.50). It was marked $2.98 at the thrift store, and I got it on a half-price day. That’s under $1.50 for a $50 skirt that was brand new!
