Dandelions, weeds taking over your yard? Here are 4 good lawn care services.

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

When T.S. Eliot wrote that April is the cruelest month, it must have been an early spring in the U.K. Here it is the first week of May and what does my yard show (besides a lazy landscaper)? It’s cruel to watch dandelions, wild violets, crabgrass and creeping Charlie crowding out every blade of grass from my turf. It’s enough to make a homeowner give up before the first mowing. Checkbook to the rescue. The nonprofit, local version of Consumer Reports rated lawn care services on its website. Here are four of the best from the much longer article, available for a one-time fee at the site or with a subscription. The following four were check-rated for quality and have at least 20 customers who rated the company. (Angie’s List is a valuable resource too, but too often only two or three people have rated a company.) More than 80 percent of those 20+ customers rated the firms as “superior” for “overall quality.”  Ask the company about organic treatments if desired. Most use a portion of organics but may not be 100 percent organic.
