I’m not one to suggest feeding your pet the cheapest food available because “they’re all alike,” but cat litter is different. If your cat isn’t choosy, buy the lowest price litter you can find.
As you might expect, that’s usually found the store brand at Aldi and Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart’s Special Kitty brand is only about $6 for a 28-pound box of clumping litter. Petco offers a 30-lb. refillable pail of scoopable litter for $12 with a PALS card (refills are $10).
Cheapskate websites such as Stretcher.com also recommend checking at feed stores or farm supply stores for ground corn or horse bedding. If your cat is partial to expensive brands, mix in a little cheaper stuff and increase gradually to 50 percent.
