Gotta love the “everything’s on sale” sales

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Stephanie’s boutique in Highland Park is the latest retailer to create loads of customer goodwill by offering a storewide sale. Owner Stephanie Morrissey will discount everything from previous seasons 80 percent Thursday through Sunday (May 14-17). The good news is that this is not a going-out-of-business sale. “It’s a way to recognize that times are tough for many of us, so here’s a way to help customers and say thanks,” said Morrissey. The “bad” news is that the merch discounted 80 percent isn’t the same stuff you saw in the store last week. Morrissey is taking clothing and accessories from past seasons for the sale. All premium denim from Citizens of Humanity, Paper Denim, Denim of Virtue and Grass will be $50. For more information, go to my video, available after noon Tuesday, May 12.

Stephanie’s joins other Twin Cities retailers who have run storewide sales including GH2′s famous 90 percent sale, Bibelot’s 20 percent off, Cooks of Crocus Hill 25 percent off, as well as Tatters 50 percent off sale. Those sales were worth the trip and a heckuva lot better than the “Thirty percent off selected merchandise sale.”

Let me know of any more upcoming storewide sales with discounts of 20 percent or more.

West Elm’s storewide sale (and a rumor)

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Normally I should be slapped for mentioning a discount as low as 10 percent, but West Elm rarely has a sale, let alone a storewide one. Thursday, April 9 through Monday, April 13, the catalog retailer with a store in Edina will discount everything in the store 10 percent, including the few clearance items (mostly pillow shams). The discount is also good online. It’s a good time to stock up on those West Elm staples such as shelving and accessories.

And the rumor? I haven’t yet gotten a call back from TJ’s PR rep, but a local blog is reporting that Trader Joe’s will be opening a store in Uptown, near Lyndale and 23rd. More to come.

Everything on sale at Cooks of Crocus Hill

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Another example of unprecented discounts in this local economy: Cooks of Crocus Hill is taking 25 percent off everything in the store April 4-11. They’re doing it to make room for spring merchandise, the email said, but no matter. The list of exceptions is short, which is exactly as it should be–no discounts on gift certificates, classes, crop shares or special orders. But rarely discounted items such as All Clad, Le Creuset, and small electrics ARE included in the discount.

Most storewide sales are 20 percent discounts, so again, my toque blanche is off to Cooks for a generous 25 percent deal for shoppers. Even though the sale lasts for a whole week, shop early for blah-blah–you know the drill.  Cooks has stores in St. Paul on Grand Avenue and in Edina at 50th and France.
