We became members about 5 years ago when we were building a new home and the joining fee at that time was $3000. We do pay a $99 annual fee. We have made many purchases through DB and like many outlets some areas offer great values and some do not. It depends on how much buying power DB has. TV’s offered almost no vaule (better of going through amazon and getting a bigger discount). Kitchen cabinets were terrible as well. Our lighting and furniture costs were 1/2 of what could be bargained locally at any store. We made back our membership fee ($3000) on our appliances alone. So if you decide to join do your homework. Conclusion for readers…. only join if you are planning to make some major purchases (Remodeling/ building etc.)

there is a near-equivalent of the Bose Wave made by Cambridge Soundworks. I just bought my i765 model on sale for $199. incredible sound. It has capacity for DVD, CD, radio, and a place to plug in the Ipod. you’ll never go back to the over-price Bose…

Hair clips are a great deal. Also safety pins. Not every dollar store carries them, but if you can find them they’re a great buy. I sometimes buy scrapbooking stickers and paper at the dollar store too.

Things I buy at the dollar store when I need them: Super Glue, light bulbs, shaving cream. I can often find as good of a deal on light bulbs or shaving cream elsewhere, and I try to stock up on cheap shaving cream. But when I need either in a pinch, I go directly to the Dollar Tree. I have found most kitchen items from dollar stores are rather weak, so I try to avoid buying cooking utensils, etc., for a buck because they usually don’t hold up.

I like to buy “cheater glasses: for a dollar. Sometimes you can’t find your strength, but stop by again and they may have them. Also eye shadow and toothpaste is a great deal!

I did infact test out the 30-day trial DirectBuy offers due to the fact I needed new flooring in my entire home. After some research I would advise no one to pay the ridiculous fees to become a direct buy member. I priced out an identical carpet from a wholesale compay you wrote about, Jack rubenstein wholesale and not only did I get a better price on the same carpet but there was no need to pay the outrageous DirectBuy fees.

I love the Sunday paper where I get an extra set of coupon inserts and helium balloons for birthdays and other special occassions. The balloons don’t last quite as long as others, but for $1 they are well worth the price.

Dollar store pregnancy tests are a great deal! Much cheaper than the name-brands for $3-5 at Target etc., and just as accurate.
