Update on airline charges

Heads up, flyers. Prices are rising, and not just via the new maddening first-bag fee. On that front, Sun Country just last week announced a new $12 fee each way for the first checked bag for travel on or after October 1. Now Continental has joined other major carriers in announcing its own $15 fee, which it will charge most economy-class passengers for destinations within the U.S. and between the U.S. and Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada for travel beginning on or after October 7.
Now, in an effort to keep business travelers paying the big bills, major carriers are returning to the Saturday-night stay requirement (which, for some markets, had gone bye-bye thanks to discount carriers). Plus, many of the cheapest fares require two- or three-night minimum stays during the week.
