Duluth named a top B&B town

The September issue of Coastal Living magazine named Duluth the third best B&B town, after Santa Barbara, Calif., and Troncones, Mexico. Our northern city beat out such B&B icons as Key West, Fla. and Kennebunkport, Maine. The magazine singled out the Firelight Inn for being a place that’s particularly great for birders. The other B&Bs mentioned were Olcott House and Solglimt.

What do you think of these choices? Do you go to Duluth for a vacation, or is it a quick stop on your way to the North Shore or beyond? What are your tips for visiting Duluth?

I drive my Porsche to the Duluth area on a regular basis. It is actually quite nice (my Porsche, that is.) I had it repainted in a Burgundy, and then replaced my all white wardrobe to match.

We are heading to Duluth over MEA for a weekend vacation. We always try to eat at Amazing Grace and Little Angies. Since the leaves will be pretty we will also head to chester bowl and 7 bridges road.

The Olcott house is a favorite of mine and my husband.

I used to live in Duluth and it is ok, but I have found very nice B&Bs to stay in right here by the cities. I was so surprised to find very nice bed and breakfasts just outside of town in Jordan, Belle PLaine and New Ulm.
Try them you will like them and not have to pay for a full tank of gas!

We’ve made Solglimt an annual trip. Right by the canal, sandy beach, great scenery and gourmet breakfast. Throw in the North Shore and it’s great, any time of year.

I will be staying at Solglimt B&B over MEA weeekend. Most of the time, a hotel room will do, but no hotel can match the relaxation of a bed and breakfast.

My wife and I were in Duluth this past weekend at the Cotton Mansion. Great place to stay, and we found Duluth very charming.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Solglimt this past weekend. It was our first B&B experience, and I’m betting that Brian and Mary Grover own one of the very best B&B’s around. They’re wonderful hosts, fabulous room & location, and their gourmet breakfast was the best! I hope to return there again if I can get on their busy calendar.

My husband and I stayed for a week at the Firelight Inn and it is the best B&B ever. The owners are the best and they have the most delectable food ever imaginable. We stayed in the Superior Suite which has a great atmosphere and views. Duluth is a great vacation place. I would recommend Duluth and the Firelight Inn to everyone.

My favorite is the Mathew S. Burrows 1890 Inn. We stayed there on our honeymoon in the Master suite and could see the harbor. We also enjoyed the best stuffed french toast in the morning. When we go back, it will be at the 1890 Inn!
