Strap on the skis
Posted on October 28th, 2008 – 12:04 PMBy Kerri Westenberg
The ski season opens today when Wild Mountain in Taylors Falls lets skiers rip down one intermediate run, the Expressway. This makes the 33rd year in a row that the local ski spot has been the first to welcome skiers in the region. October 18 was the earliest date they’ve opened. That was in 1992, when they were the first ski slopes in the nation to make snow and offer a run. Other runs there will open as Mother Nature allows.
Spirit Mountain in Duluth hopes to open the slopes on Thanksgiving Day, “pending weather and other factors.” Afton Alps in Hastings, Minnesota, and Trollhaugen in Dresser, Wisconsin, both look for an extended period of temps below 32 degrees, probably sometime around Thanksgiving. Lutsen, on the North Shore, opens for weekends beginning November 22 (four days over Thanksgiving weekend) and will open daily after December 13.

You spelled, “skis” wrong.
I made it out for opening day at Wild Mountain!! I wasn’t expecting very good snow conditions, but, WOW, it was awesome! Thank you Wild Mountain, for getting the “snow-ball” rolling. I will be back as soon as I can.
