Last-minute deals to Chicago and beyond

As Southwest Airlines moves in, the sales continue to shine here in the Twin Cities.

This week, Southwest announced daily flights to Denver, for fares as low as $89 one-way. Already boasting daily flights to Chicago, Southwest is quickly emerging as a low-fare option for destinations throughout the country (and customers willing to forego direct flights).

The result has been a number of other low fare options for those of us in the Twin Cities, including a number of last-minute deals this weekend. Among the highlights (with the usual caveats) from United Airlines:

Chicago roundtrip for $132; Greenville, SC, for $226; and Allentown, PA, for $232. OK, so maybe they’re not quite the warm trip to Mexico you’d been hoping for. (That would be from U.S. Airways, actually: tickets to Mazatlan this week are being advertised for $240).

Other deals this week include a $99 roundtrip fare to Dallas, advertised this week on Hobbit Travel.

And then, of course, there are the latest deals from IcelandAir, this week advertising roundtrip fares to Amsterdam and Oslo for $739 roundtrip.

Not to be outdone, this week’s TravelZoo.com boasts a couple of local entertainment deals for those traveling into the Twin Cities, including $5 tickets to the final Timberwolves games of the year and $15 tickets to see the Harlem Globetrotters, in both Fargo and Minneapolis.

NWA has a BUNCH of places (Seattle, Boston, others) priced at $140 round-trip through mid-June. You can’t get these for long-weekend trips, but they’re great for trips of 5 or more days.
