Last-minute deals out of MSP: Boston for $150

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Last week, my friends at TravelZoo.com listed a trip to New York City from MSP for just $157 roundtrip among its top 20 deals.

And that included tax.

The fare was so unbelievable that I personally know of two people who jumped at tickets — and will now be going to the Big Apple in the next couple of months for literally that price.

The deal was such a stunner that when I saw this week’s TravelZoo picks, I couldn’t believe that I was seeing almost the same thing all over again.

This week’s best deal comes again from TravelZoo: Roundtrip fares to Boston for as low as $150.

As I said last week: Go ahead and rub your eyes. The price will still be $150 when you’re done.

When I searched for details, I found that fare on U.S. Airways, and the fare only worked out if one stayed for a week. Fares got a little higher (the $180 range) if the stay was less.

Still, an unbelievable fare.

In other remarkable fares, this week AirTran continues its sale that features more than 60 cities on sale from $39 and up, one-way.

When I clicked on the AirTran page, I saw tickets to Milwaukee for that, as well as tickets to Tampa for just $75, and New Orleans for just $129 one way. And if you book directly on their site, those New Orleans ticket prices dropped even lower, to just $99 each way.

Seriously.

Details can be found at the AirTran site here:

And if you’re not into flying, TravelZoo also touts a Wisconsin Dells deal this week as well:

A condo package at Chula Vista resort for $159, that includes arcade tokens, a large pizza, a $25 dining credit and eight passes to the water park.

Hump day getaway: Corsica

It’s August, which means most of Europe is on “holiday.” While travelers flock to places all over the continent, the Mediterranean Sea is especially popular. The island of Corsica is known for its rugged beauty, gorgeous beaches and food that’s a fusion of French and Italian traditions. Take a virtual tour here.

New York City — for $159 roundtrip (tax included!)

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Who needs Good Morning America?

The big news last week was the Minnesota couple who danced down the aisle.
Remember them? They posted the video on YouTube, and then flew to New York City for all the morning TV.

But then ABC — upset they’d been scooped by rival NBC — rescinded their offer to cover the couple’s roundtrip airfare to the Big Apple, stranding them there. AND THEN, they kicked the YouTube couple out of their hotel.

They should have called me.

I could have found the couple roundtrip airfare to New York for just $159, including taxes.

(Go ahead, rub your eyes. It’ll still say $159. And I repeat: That includes taxes and fees).

That deal pops up on this week’s “Travel Zoo” top 20 deals out of Minneapolis.

Here’s the link:

And it’s no exaggeration. Fly.com pulled up several dozen flights at the time I searched — airlines from Continental to Delta to Northwest. The fine print: You have to travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

Still, not a big sacrifice for basically a 2-for-1 fare!

Q & A: All-inclusive cruises

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Q: I’ve never been on a cruise and was wondering if there are any that are truly all-inclusive and include alcohol in the price, similar to all-inclusive resorts.  A: According the cruise expert Stewart Chiron, the answer is yes–but it will cost you. That’s because the only true all-inclusive cruises are also the most expensive luxury lines, including  Seaborn, Crystal, Regent and Silversea. The good news, according to Chiron, is that these cruise lines are currently offering dramatic discounts to try and get passengers back on the high seas.
