Denver left wing Brock Trotter was named the WCHA’s Offensive Player of the Week. The sophomore had two goals and four assists as the Pioneers won the Wells Fargo Denver Cup.
He leads Denver in scoring with 12 goals and 15 assists and has four consecutive multiple-points games.
Goalie Rob Nolan of Michigan Tech was named the WCHA’s Defensive Player of the Year. He beat Michigan State 4-1 and played well in a 1-0 double overtime loss to Michigan.
He stopped 74 of 76 shots on goal for a .974 save percentage.
Center Tyler Bozak of Denver was the Rookie of the Week. He had one goal and three assists in the Denver Cup.
TIGHT BATTLE FOR THIRD
Denver and Colorado College are both halfway through their WCHA schedule at 11-3 and have a nine-point lead over third-place Minnesota Duluth.
UMD could have trouble holding on to that spot, though. Only six points separate the bottom eight teams in the league.
In the middle of that pack is sixth-place Minnesota with a 5-7 conference record and 10 points.
WCHA teams have a 35-15-10 record against nonconference opponents. … A record nine of the 10 WCHA teams are in the USCHO.com/CSTV national rankings this week.
Denver is No. 3, Colordado College No. 4, North Dakota No. 8, Wisconsin No. 13, St. Cloud State No. 15, Minnesota and UMD are tied for No. 16, Minnesota State Mankato is No. 19 and MichiganTech is No. 20.
