With compassion there is a chance at behavior.

I mean a chance at changing behavior.

Don't you think that the various after school programs help to facilitate a chance at a better life for some kids? Do you think the people who help to run those programs have compassion or don't have compassion?

Another point: people who live insulated lives, change is difficult. You are an example of this, like people who live in the ghettoes of inner cities. They don't see a world beyond there day to day lives, therefore they see no hope. How do you change that? How do you change the way you see your life? You seem stuck in your ways but yet you judge them for being stuck in there ways. I see similiarities in how you both look at life.

With compassion there is a chance at behavior. Showing no compassion there is a 100% chance of no change. Which would you prefer? What did Jesus teach us?

But, compassion does not change behavior. If we pay people to have babies, dumb people will have more babies. Smart people will not see the cash as worth it.

You are a cold callous man. Your analogy makes no sense. If large numbers of women jump into snake pits, I would try to find out why and attack that reason. Your way of looking at things is if they're stupid enough to do it let em. My mother raised me to be more compassionate.

If large numbers of young females decide to jump into snake pits what is the village to do? Oh my!!? Let us not be judgemental and question their values, that would be bad. Instead, let us pay them so they will be all "loved" in their nice snake pit.

How about, "Dear 12 year old girls, it is stupid past all belief that you are jumping into snake pits because it gives you a short rush of fun and 'love'. We will not pay you to do this anymore. It is too stupid." ?

The last forty years of my life has been a slow evolution away from your view that society can save people from making stupid decisions. Time for those in the snake pit to stop going into snake pits and blaming the people who begged them not to do that.
