Verdell Jones Update
Posted on May 5th, 2008 – 8:05 PMBy Myron Medcalf
I just talked to Indiana Jones, a.k.a. Verdell Jones III, about his choice. He said Indiana will give him a chance to play close to home, and he likes the way that Tom Crean develops his guards.
He also said that he’s not worried about Indiana’s pending sanctions. Indiana officials have told him that they don’t believe the university will face major sanctions for Kelvin Sampson’s recruiting violations. Jones said he thinks the school will only lose a few scholarships.
Also, he’s very excited about playing right away. The Hoosiers aren’t bringing anyone of value (outside of Jordan Crawford) back next season. He also made it sound like he was really wavering between Kentucky and Indiana at the end of the day. He praised Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie.
“They expect me to come in and make a big contribution,” he said. “

Indiana Jones? This blog gets dumber all the time. Go Hawks. Only the Goophers could get excited about a low rent basketball recruit.
I didn’t think he even had an offer from Kentucky. Also, double negatives are a writing no no (”…they don’t believe the university will not face major sanctions….”). Seems like a typo in there somewhere.
Is this Medcalf even literate? Come on.
Did any Minnesota media attend the press conference? Jones invited MN media this weekend. It doesn’t appear that any attended. Crazy, but I have to wonder if that affected his decision. Seems like this guy just couldn’t make up his mind…

This is 2 recruits in a row that you have been absolutely 100% dead wrong about. First you were sure that Krys Faber was going to choose the Gophers. And just a couple days ago you said that the Gophers had all but locked up Jones III. Who are your sources? Do you talk to people other than Tubby Smith and the Gophers coaches? By the sounds of it the Gophers were a distant third to get Jones.
I don’t mean to be a jerk, but I think you need some new sources.
Urindell Jones? What dat?
Guess Tony Freeman has some time left & I’m sure he’d love nothing more than to stick it to those beloved huckeyes
Jones sounds like an “I” player. There is no “I” in team. We don’t need him. He is more worried about playing time then being part of a winner. I look forward to watching Nolan kick your butt in the Big Ten Mr. Jones!
