U hockey: Gophers logo earns praise

So what does a hockey publication like The Hockey News during the summer doldrums? It picks the best logos.

And, hooray, guess which logo THN named the best in the WCHA? (OK, the headline gives it away.) The Gophers’ M.

The publication’s comment: The M that looks like an upside down W proves simlicity can stand the test of time.

Ranked second is Alaska-Anchorage’s Sea Wolves logo. And, winning the bronze, is Minnesota State, Mankato. “There is something about this big, purple bull we really fell in love with.” Who can argue with that logic.

Last is Colorado College. They didn’t like the Tigers’ tiger.

MORE NONSENSE

The best hockey news I heard all summer is pretty lame, too. Three different places are going to cater the pre-game meals for the media and other hangers-on this season in the press box.

Last year it was pork-burgers, beans and cole slaw every game. (OK, sometimes some other nondescript meat was also available. Looked like beef maybe.) People even started passing the free food up. Amazing.

An insider told me a pizza place would even be in the three-restaurant/fast food rotation.
