Former Gophers assistant coach Mike Guentzel, who resigned in late April, appears to have found a new job.
He will be an assistant coach at Colorado College, according to a story in the Colorado Springs Gazette on Tuesday.
CC is the defending regular-season champion in the WCHA. Guentzel’s son Gabe, who played in the USHL last season, will be a freshman defenseman for the CC Tigers.
Mike Guentzel will replace Norm Bazin on coach Scott Owens’ staff. Bazin left last month to be the head coach at Division III Hamilton College.
You have to wonder a little bit if Guentzel might still be at the U if the Gophers had given his son Gabe a scholarship?
Guentzel, when he resigned, said he wanted to watch his sons play more. He has three. Ryan was a freshman forward on the roster of NCAA runner-up Notre Dame which made a surprising run until losing to Boston College in the title game. His youngest Jake is bantam age.
