The Gophers women’s basketball team, fresh off a 3-0 trip to Italty where the competition was very weak, got together on Wednesday morning for their first workout of the school year.
“They looked great,” Pam Borton said.
This was not an official practice. Those start in mid-October.
One player to watch 6-4 forward/center Kristen Dockery, a redshirt freshman. She missed all of last season with knee prroblems and had off-season surgery on both of them. “She had a scope on one, surgery on the other,” Borton said. “She was limited to 12-15 minutes per game in Italy. She looked good.”
She was the only one limited.
Freshman coming in who should give the Gophers much needed depth are 5-11 guard Kiara Buford from St. Paul Central, 6-1 forwards Brianna and Nicole Mastey, twins from Becker, and 6-1 forward Jackie Voigt of Park of Cottage Grove.
Borton was wearing a bright yellow Gophers sweatshirt the day after it was announced she has signed a six-year contract for $2.67 million.
Anybody call you for loans or money? “My parents — just kidding,” Borton said.
