U hockey: Want to go to a game? Try the X

Tickets for regular-season home games for the Gophers are scarce. Only single seats and standing room were available when single-game seats went on sale a while back.
But you can still see the Gophers in the first Minnesota Hockey Showcase, being held Sat., Nov. 1 at the Xcel.
It’s a WCHA doubleheader, featuring the four Division I teams from Minnesota in the league. UMD plays St. Cloud State at 4 p.m., the Gophers plays Minnesota State Mankato at 7:30 p.m.
“We want to make this event like the Beanpot” in Boston, said Kathy O’Connor, the public and media relations director for the X. “All four schools presold tickets to their season ticket-holders.”
But even with those efforts, and two days of selling to the public (Monday and Tuesday) throught Ticketmaster locations, only about 10,000 tickets have been sold, leaving 8,000.
UMD and Minnesota State Mankato are the home teams, but this game was not part of those teams’ season-ticket package.
O’Connor — “We’re off to a good start” — expects ticket sales to pick up once college hockey actually starts. The Gophers, for instance, open against St. Cloud State on Oct. 17-18.
Tickets, sold as two-game packages, are priced from $32 to $42 for the Minnesota Hockey Showcase.
