J Robinson and his Gophers wrestling coaching staff will host its annual coaches clinic at 1 p.m. Friday, October 24 at the Bierman Field Athletic Complex.

Former Olympian Cary Kolat will speak about technique. Former Gopher Mack Reiter, a three-time NCAA All-American, will break down cradles. Coaches will also be able to watch a Minnesota wrestling practice.

After dinner Duke University professor Gregory Dale, will talk about team-building and Kolat will offer a second clinic.

J’S HER MANAGER

J Robinson’s wife, despite injuring her elbow recently in a bicycle accident, plans to compete in a triathlon in Hawaii soon. He plans on making the trip to support her in any way he can. It’s tough duty, he joked.

PROSPECTS BRIGHT

The Gophers’ wrestling team had media day on Wednesday. The first official team practice was Thursday.

Four starters return from last year, including junior Jayson Ness who tied a school record with 20 pins, and senior Dustin Schlatter, who has won an NCAA individual title.

Robinson said he is excited about the upcoming season, which will be a lot different than 2007-08 when the Gophers were coming off an NCAA team title, had a senior-dominated lineup and were ranked No. 1 in the preseason polls.

The team this season will be much younger, but has the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class with which to fill in holes.
