Junior forward Christian Isackson of St. Thomas Academy has committed to the Gophers, co-head coach Tom Vannelli confirmed on Wednesday. Classmate Ryan Walters, also a junior forward, gave the U a verbal a year ago.
Isackson scored two goals as the Cadets beat Duluth Marshall 5-1 last March in the Class 1A state championship game at the X. St. Thomas Academy’s final record was 26-5.
Isackson scored his first goal 37 seconds into the title game, his second with six minutes left to play.
He was listed at 5-10 in the state tournament program.
Isackson had three goals and four assists in three tournament games. His goal total went up from five goals as a freshman to 20 as a sophomore.
“He balanced out our scoring this season,” Tom Vannelli was quoted as saying after the state tournament.
In an e-mail today, Tom Vannelli said he was not sure which season Isackson would join the Gophers.
FOLLOWING FAMILY TRADITION
Senior forward Dan DeLisle of Totino-Grace has committed to UMD. “Dan committed to [the Bulldogs] over the weekend,” Eagles coach Mark Loahr wrote in an e-mail. “Every WCHA school was interested in him, but he got a great offer from UMD for next season.
“His uncle, Joe DeLisle, was the captain at T-G in ‘83 then went on to be
captain at UMD in ‘88, so [Dan] had ties to UMD.”
