U men’s hockey: Are referees being unjustly ripped?

I like getting e-mails from readers (at least I hope they are readers, the Strib filed for bankruptcy recently) about Gophers hockey. But sometimes I can’t help them.
I don’t watch the Gophers on TV or listen to them on radio, for instance. I’m at the game trying to figure out on my own what is going on.
Which brings me to an e-mail about officials from KL (not sure this person wants his/her name out there in internet land). KL thinks referees are being mistreated by broadcasters.
Does anyone out there agree with KL or disagree? This seems to be an important issue with KL.
The e-mail:
Is anyone else complaining about the criticism of the refs during the games? The penalties are always wrong if they are against the gophers and I have heard them name the refs (by name) toward the end of the game
and say what a lousy job they have done.
This is not professional! I believe it is worse than last year when they were taken to task by (for?) their behavior.
End of e-mail.
My personal opinion is that TV and radio broadcasters should try to be objective with all sporting events they cover. They should not act like fans of either team.
Before each Gophers game at Mariucci, a voice on the PA system up in the press box area asks the media to refrain from cheering. Of course, a few media members always cheer the announcement. I confess, I’ve even done that a few times, but not lately. It’s a bad attempt at being funny.
