WCHA hockey: Gwozdecky out one game

Upon further review, Denver coach George Gwozdecky will get more than a verbal rebuke for his actions last Saturday in Grand Forks, N.D.
He was ejected during the second period of that 2-2 overtime tie for yelling at officials. Then he walked onto the ice and confronted one of them.
But the one-game suspension he received from DU had nothing to do with those things. After leaving the bench, he watched the rest of the second period from the media room. Then he went to the press box for the third period and the overtime.
That’s when he committed an NCAA violation. Once ejected a coach can’t communicate with his assistants. But Gwozdecky did, using a head set in the press box.
So he will miss Friday’s home game with Alaska-Anchorage at Magness Arena. Assistant coach Steve Miller will fill in for him.
