Sophomore forward Drew Fisher has told Gophers coaches he is leaving the program.

Fisher will transfer to Bemidji State he told his hometown newspaper, the International Falls Journal. He will have to sit out one season before being eligible to play.

At that time, he will have two years of eligibility left.

Fisher played in only 14 of the Gophers’ 37 games this past season. He had one assist, 12 shots on goal, and was a plus-2.

Fisher, who will turn 22 on June 2, is 6-3, 195. He played for two season with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL before joining the Gophers in 2007-08.

In his first season, he played in 27 games and had two assists.

He is the third little used player to leave the team this school year. Michael Dorr, a freshman forward from Roseville, left in late December after playing only two games. He transferred to Minnesota State Mankato.

Grant Scott, a freshman defenseman from Pennylvania, left in early February after playing one game. He joined the Fargo Force of the USHL.
