WCHA: Zacharias MVP at MSU

Senior goalie Mike Zacharias, from Plymouth, was recently named the MVP of the Minnesota State Mankato men’s hockey team this past season. Zacharias also was the MVP in the 2007-08 season.

He finished his career with a 2.71 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage, both school records. He also was fourth in career victories with 45, tied for second in games with 102, and tied for second in career shutouts with six.

This past season when the Mavericks had a disappointing 15-17-5 record, 11-13-4 in the WCHA, Zacharias faced 30 shots or more 16 times.

Junior forward Karl Mouillierat of Edmonton, Alberta, was named the team;s Unsung Hero and also received the most stars award, meaning he was named one of the three stars in a MSU game the most times.

He was third on the team in scoring with 17 goals and 13 assists for 30 points in 29 games.

Freshman defensman Baylor Dieter was named the Most Improved Player.

Junior forward Trevor Bruess received the Mr. Hustle Award for the third time. He signed after the season with the Washington Capitals. Bruess was a plus-13 and had 12 goals, tying him for third on the team.
