U men’s puck:Schedule taking shape, 10 games uncovered

The U of M has not come out with its 2009-10 schedule, but other colleges are releasing theirs.

So I’ll piece together what I know and start building the Gophers sked:

Oct. 16-17: at North Dakota

Oct. 23-24: at Denver

What a wicked start for the Gophers. North Dakota is bad enough, but Denver? DU snapped the Gophers’ 11-game unbeaten streak to start the 2008-09 season.

In one preseason poll, the Pioneers are No. 1 in the nation, and in another they are No. 2

Jan. 2-3: Dodge Holiday Classic, with Bowling Green, Clarkson and Northern Michigan at Mariucci Arena … Pairing are not set yet.

Jan. 22: at St. Cloud State

Jan. 23: St. Cloud State (Mariucci)

Feb. 12-13: Denver

Feb. 19-20: Colorado College

If you see any other team’s schedules that are out involving the Gophers, let me know. I’ll keep building this and see how I far I get before the U releases theirs.

Gophers will play Wisconsin home and away this season as always — the Badgers are their designated top rival for schedule purposes. They will also have non-conference series against Bemidji State and Harvard.

The U will go to Alaska Anchorage this season, so the Gophers get two extra non-conference games. It’s the so-called Alaska, Hawii excemption, permitted by the NCAA.

JERSEY SWITCHING

The North Dakota men’s and women’s hockey teams will have new jerseys next season. Now that’s bad timing.

After next season, the Fighting Sioux might have to give up their nickname unless UNO gets permission from two state tribes to keep using it for the next 30 years.
