Of the 104 prospects at the NHL Combine last week in Toronto, Gophers freshman center Jordan Schroeder was the shortest at 5-8 1/4 inches.
He also was one of the lightest at 175 pounds. There were only 18 lighter than him, players from 165 to 174. Among the lighter players was left wing Erik Haula of Shattuck-St. Mary’s. The junior is 5-11, 170. He has committed to the U, probably for 2010-11.
Edina right wing Zach Budish was the heaviest of the 104 prospects at 229. Four players were next at 220, including Sioux City defenseman Seth Helgeson. Both are coming in to play for the Gophers next season.
Helgeson, at 6-4 1/2, was also one of the tallest players at the combine. Only three other were taller, including defenseman Victor Hedman from Sweden who is considered the second best prospect.
The Minnesotans, listed by weight:
229 pounds/ Zach Budish, Edina HS, RW, 6-2 1/2
220/ Seth Helgeson, Sioux City (USHL), D, 6-4 1/2

Insiders say the Wild were not high on Jordan Schroeder before the NHL Combine. Should they take him if he is available when they pick No. 12 in the first round?
He proved he was strong, tying for fourth in the bench press at the combine by lifting 150 pounds 17 times at a 25 per minute pace.
