The Omaha World Herald reports that University of Nebraska Omaha AD Trev Alberts apparently interviewed six candidates for the head hockey job at his school.
The interviews were done over three days, Sun.-Tues., at two locations.
Alberts hopes to hire somebody between mid-June and July 1.
The names that keep coming up are:
* Mike Hastings, Gophers assistant
* Dean Blais, Fargo Force coach in USHL
* Mike Guentzel, Colorado College assistant
* Steve Rohlik, UMD assistant
* David Quinn, Boston Univ. associate head coach
Hastings and Guentzel are both former coaches of the Omaha Lancers in the USHL; Rohlik and Quinn are former UNO assistants.
Whoever gets hired will have to help make a big decision: Which conference to the Mavericks play in? UNO is in the CCHA now but the WCHA is looking for a 12th team.
The AD of Alaska Fairbanks said his school is pondering a move from the CCHA to the WCHA. So the Nanooks may be an option if UNO decides not to jump.
