WCHA: What’s happening?

The Gophers recently got commitments from four recruits. I don’t think any of them will come in next season, even though three will be high school seniors.

Maybe those three — the Reilly twins of Holy Angels and Justin Holl of Minnetonka — will come in for the 2011-12 season.  Travis Boyd, who played for Hopkins the past two years, will be a sophomore on the U16 national development team this season.

Boyd, unless he accelerates his education and completes three years of high school in two years, will join the Gophers in 2012-13 at the earliest.

Here is the revised list of committed players to the U:

BADGERS BALANCED

Wisconsin coach Mike Eaves said he has six to eight players who will battle for a spot on his top line this season. Two of them are sophomore from Minnesota: Derek Stepan of Hastings and Jordy Murray of Shattuck St. Mary’s in Faribault.

RADIO SWITCH FOR UMD

A Midwest Communications radio station, either KDAL (610-AM) or KHQG (102.5-FM) has broadcast UMD men’s hockey for the past 49 years, or since 1961.

That long run, called the longest in Division I hockey on a Duluth News-Tribune blog by Kevin Pates, is over.

UMD and Red Rock Radio has signed a two-year contract. RRR will carry Bulldogs football and men’s hockey on KQDS, the Fan (1490-AM).
