U men’s puck: Blog picks Schroeder to be best in WCHA
Posted on September 15th, 2009 – 9:38 PMBy Roman Augustoviz
The Western College Hockey blog recently make predictions on WCHA award winners.
Gophers sophomore center Jordan Schroeder was WCH’s choice for Player of the Year. The complete list:
2009-10 WCHA
Player of the Year: Jordan Schroeder, Minnesota
Goalie of the Year: Brad Eidsness, North Dakota
Rookie of the Year: Dylan Olsen, Minnesota Duluth
Defenseman of the Year: Chay Genoway, North Dakota
WCH comment: Genoway may be in the running for Player of the Year, especially if, like I predicted, UND wins the league and Minnesota comes in an uninspiring fourth, but I’ll stick with Schroeder who I think is the best player in the league.
First Team
F-Jordan Schroeder, Minnesota
F-Justin Fontaine, Minnesota Duluth
F-Chris VandeVelde, North Dakota
D-Chay Genoway, North Dakota
D-Patrick Wiercioch, Denver
G-Brad Eidsness, North Dakota
NOTES
* The Grand Forks Herald is planning a 12-page preseason hockey preview for Oct. 2.
* Jason Lammers has been named an assistant coach at Colorado College, replacing ex-Gophers assistant Mike Guentzel who moved on to a USHL head coaching job in Des Moines. He has previous coaching experience at Clarkson, Alaska Fairbanks and Princeton.
* Minnesota State Mankato is having a faceoff dinner for its men’s and women’s hockey teams on Oct. 1.
Its at the City Center Hotel in downtown Mankato. The MSU Blue Line Club is sponsoring it.
Players will sit with fans and coaches and players will be available for photos.
Stomper and the hockey cheer team will be there, too. Ducats are $50 for adults, $25 for 12 and under.
Sounds like fun.
