Mbakwe commits to Gophers

I just got off the phone with Trevor Mbakwe. The former Marquette forward told me that he verbally committed to Minnesota tonight. The 6-7 forward was a star at Henry Sibley, before he ended up at Marquette. He’s playing at Miami-Dade Community College this season.

Mbakwe will bring a much-needed physical presence to Minnesota’s frontcourt. With Mbakwe signing on with Tubby Smith’s 2009 class, the Gophers may have one of the top 15 recruiting classes in the country.

This is a big signing. He is going to be a vet player when he comes in, and a good one at that.

Long time Gopher fan, but have lived out of state for 15 years. I have great memories of Ushering Gopher BB and Football in the late 60’s when I was a 2nd Class Boyscout. Those were terrific times! The way Tubby and Brewster are recruiting is very exciting.
Myron, keep up the great work here, really enjoy the updates.
If things keep going the way they are, I may have to finally return to the TC.to see all this develop and come to fruition in person.

He was a beast in high school, hopefully he can regain some of that form.

Hey Myron, this is potentially good news for us Gopher fans. One concern you may help with, though: Is it troubling that this kid has bounced around so much the past few years??? Three HS’s and Three colleges in the last four or five years? What’s up with that?

Even though the responses are a little slow right now, know that we’re out here and really enjoy your updates.

Thanks!
