Smith says Jonathan Williams is out for 4-6 weeks

Tubby Smith said that senior center and co-captain Jonathan Williams is out for the next four to six weeks with a hernia on Dan Berreiro’s radio show on KFAN Wednesday afternoon. That means, Williams may not return until the start of the Big Ten season in late December.
Losing Williams will hurt the Gophers more than losing Damian Johnson. Johnson is set to return soon and has only missed two exhibition games so far. Williams’ injury will force freshman center Colton Iverson to become the starter at the spot. Iverson had a chance to earn that spot, based on the way he’s played so far. My guess is that Ralph Sampson III will move over to the five and back up Iverson. Two freshman big men in a league with a lot of tough post players. That’s a tough situation for any team.

Good thing the non-conference schedule is weak. This might end up helping us because the freshman will have to grow up quickly when they are thrown in to the fire.
Yeah, but Williams did not raise the fear factor in anyone - just the weight “do not get in his way when he is running right at ya” factor.
JW’s loss will not come into play until maybe at Colorado State - or - Louisville in Phoenix on 12/20. They could use him for those two games…
[…] Likely To Start For Gophers The Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting that Minnesota senior center Jonathan Williams will miss the next four to six weeks […]
So I’m a student at the U of M. I went online to read the local sports and saw Myron was writing for the Star Tribune. I went to Nicolet and played football with your brother Mike. Small world.
