CPPC update: Measure twice, cut once

The corners are square. The box is strong. Then our feline friend, Lucky Lynx discovers that the grow light is 2 1/2 inches LONGER than the CPPC (Cat-Proof Protection Chamber).

Brian and Dave look at each other, then look at the CPPC. They re-measure the box. They re-measure the light. They hold their breath, exhale slowly — then scowl.

Yup, foiled by 2 1/2 inches of aluminium. Outsmarted by a grow light.

If it only required one more trip to the hardware/lumberyard consider yourself lucky. Any projects here at my house require numerous trips and weeks (the laundry tub relocation is now going on 6 weeks). Good quality work at a snails pace.

I feel fortunate. My cats completely ignore the new seedlings in the basement. I’ve started peppers, eggplants, petunias, lobelia, and a few other annual flowers. The goal this year is to not need any annuals from the greenhouses. The tomatoes go in tommorrow. Juliet (from Totally Tomatoes) is one of my favorites. Even a cool summer won’t stop this plant.

Greengirl says: That’s my goal (er… a challenge), too! Once I started to grow my own plants, annuals seemed so homogenous and overpriced. Hopefully, our seedlings will pull through.

It’s good to see you back this season. My wife and I are planning for a move, so I don’t think we’ll plant much this year. I mostly wanted to compliment you on your beautiful blue creme, Lucky Lynx. I’m going to have my wife visit your blog, because your Lucky Lynx is a spitting image of our Murky the Mischievous…

Good gardening!

Greengirl says: Those blue creme torties are certainly charmers. The Lynx will do anything for affection. The other cats only break out the charm for food.

I hope your new places opens up more gardening possibilities!
