YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES

Yesterday’s much needed rain came at a high price.
Cedar Lake Road turned into Typhoon Lagoon. After an hour of wind, rain, and hail, all my tomatoes in the front yard were flattened and tangled in their cages. The beds in the back yard looked curiously refreshed, but the front was a mess of twisted branches and torn leaves.
Only a week away from my first ripe Jaune Flamme tomato, the storm severed the largest and most fruit-ladden branch from the stem.

I did a quick seach for tomato first aid and came up with very little advice. I cleaned the wound and wrapped the stem with some cheese cloth. Is there anything else I should do?
In addition to the cheest cloth bandaid try making a sling for the branch to the cage so it will take the downward pressure off.
Tomato branches will root themselves if chopped off, maybe a peat moss compress?
I think what you’re doing should work. Also, do what Deb says to take the pressure off the branch. It doesn’t look like it’s severed all the way through, so it should live.
Amazing how bad your weather was, and in Bloomington we just got a little bitty bit of rain - not enough to make much of a difference.
