YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES
The first veggie sprouts have peeked through the soil! If my neighbors would’ve looked out their window at 7 a.m., they would’ve gotten a glimpse of a Greengirl dressed in her clogs, PJs and boyfriend’s overcoat crouching in the dirt with her point-and-shoot. The event was not worthy of a NatGeo special, but it was definitely a Kodak moment.
Hooray for greens! Hooray for radishes!

Did you plant any cool season crops? What do you have coming up?
You’re kidding me, right? It has rained and rained and rained - the ground is too wet and soggy to even step your big toe into the garden let alone get the tiller in there! Can you say “MUD BOG”???
There are MANY advantages in having raised beds : )
I planted peas, lettuce and green onions last night–my freshly tilled garden was nicely drained. My soil is nicely sandy though so it drains well. I keep hoping to see asparagus poking it’s heads out!
I planted snap peas, snow peas, and pole beans Wednesday. I went out this morning to find that something had dug up and taken one little bite out of almost each and every one of them… Argh!
I keep meaning to plant up some peas, but am playing bitter this spring and haven’t prepared my vegetable bed. I’m sure I’ll grow up and get around to it next week….meanwhile, life abounds under the lights inside, and with any luck I’ll start hardening off tomatoes, basil, broccoli raab and several kinds of flowers. Thanks to a past blog about slow gardening, I also no longer feel the minimal guilt I typically would!
I am going to the Farmers market and get my heirloom tomato and pepper selection. I also have a mud bog in the garden area and will harden off the plants in the greenhouse area until I feel safe enough that the mud won’t suck me down while I put them in their permanent homes. I have a cat next door that thinks my leaf lettuce is a salad bar so I will have to come up with a cat proof containment system before I seed that row. The slugs have already been munching in the flower bed so I will need toget more of the copper based slug stuff so they don’t eat stuff I would rather eat myself.
