Who knew that one packet of seeds could provide YEARS of blooms?

No, this is not PhotoShop tomfoolery. These blooms just glow from the inside out.

Okay, now I’ve crossed the line. It’s a Nelson Heirloom! My greatest gardening thrill ever!

(Eh hem… Sorry, Connie.)

So what’s your story, morning glory? It this vigorous vine a garden fav or a garden foe? Did you fall in love with a particular variety or do you curse they day you sowed the seeds of trouble?

I have three healthy vines climbing at least 4-5 feet tall but haven’t seen a single flower yet - am I doing something wrong??

Hah! That is super funny! My faves are ‘Flying Saucers’ (white speckled in crazy patterns with light blue) and ‘Scarlet Something’ that I grew this year. It’s magenta, striped with darker magenta.

Sandra, I’m stumped. My vine is about 5′ and also not flowering prolifically, just a few here and there.

Ohhhhh don’t even get me started. My neighbor and I have cursed the day last year that we decided to invite the morning glories to decorate the fence that separates our yards. By the end of last season the “vines of destruction” had taken over many of my tomato plants and herbs. I swear they came back bigger and meaner this year. Instead of weeding I’m pulling out morning glories every day. They’re a pain in my “you know what.”

Morning glories are beautiful.

That being said, they are my archenemy. I planted one pack of seeds 5 years ago and I am still pulling them out of the grass, the veggie garden, in potted plants, my neighbors yard, and the kids sand box…
I spent an hour this morning pulling up a bucket of them! WHY, WHY is something so pretty so unruly!

I completely agree with you, coal! I realize that this is *my* fault — not the fault of the morning glories — but after I planted too many of them to cover a fence last year, they practically took over my entire garden. I can’t begin to estimate how many of them I’ve yanked up this year. I still like morning glories — just not in my backyard.

Right now I like them, and I’m encouraging them to grow and cover my otherwise unsightly compost heaps (which are just circles of chicken wire). Bad idea?

I want a Nelson Heirloom in my garden. Complete with bemused Connie centers.
