Paprika pepper party

Yes, my morning glories are exhausted. My tomato plants are pooped. But my paprika peppers are in full swing. Their branches hand heavy with these bold, bright and tasty treats.

Paprika is a pepper? It’s hard to believe, but the magic of gardening often takes the mystery out of your food. Does it not?

For me, paprika is the unofficial flavor of fall. Unlike the concentrated spice found in your local grocery store, fresh paprika adds the subtlest smokey hint to my culinary creations. I’ve been know to slip a tiny pepper in a batch of chili, salsa or homemade pasta sauce.

I bet it would make my brussel sprouts even better… if they’d only bulk up a bit…

So, what is your fav fall veggie? Leeks? Kale? Kohlrabi?

Beautiful picture - will you be drying some of these paprika peppers? Also, any ideas how to make brussels sprouts sprout? Mine aren’t yet (this is my first year growing them). Is there something I should be doing to encourage the flower stalk?

Favorite fall veggie: Dinosaur kale! It’s gorgeous now and even better after frost. But it’s difficult to choose just ONE favorite fall veggie….

To encourage sprouty sprouts, one GG reader suggested that you remove the leaves from the stalk, leaving only a crown at the top. I’ve also read that sprouts are better after a good frost. Looks like we both have a month to wait for sprouts!
