Got a garage full of plastic pots? I sure do. Every year, the collection grows. It’s nice to have a few on hand for transplants and plant swaps, but I don’t have the room for three full garbage bags of empty plastic pots.

Luckily, The Minnesota Nursery & Landscape Association (MNLA) just announced that their popular plastic garden pot recycling program is returning for another season. Just bring your clean plastic garden pots, polystyrene cell pack trays, and hanging baskets to your participating neighborhood garden center from now until November 1st. Your unwanted plastic pots will be processed and re-used by manufacturers looking for recycled plastic.

Click here to see the complete list of participating nurseries.

For those wishing to participate in the recycling program, please:
· Do not bring household plastic or clay pots.
· Dump all soil and remove metal hangers.
· Note the collection times. Your garden center will only take plastic for a limited time. Ask garden center staff for more details.
· Bring only PLASTIC pots, trays & baskets.

This is a great program. I just dropped off a ton at Malmborg’s last weekend.

Yeah, I really applaud the garden centers for stepping up and taking a lead role in recycling. I mean, gardening is supposed to help the environment, not hurt it.

Very disappointing that there is no one in the St. Cloud area on that list.

Oh, I used to work at Malmborg’s!! I love Geraniums, by George!
I am saving my cell packs for my seeds next year. I somehow manage to not bust them up too badly. ;)

Hooray! I got rid of all my plastic garden containers through this program last year, but will likely end up with more this year. I’m recycling my household plastic (the 16 and 32 oz dairy containers) by drilling holes in the bottom and using them for plant swaps. It doesn’t eliminate them completely, but does use them another time or two.

My mother needs empty plastic plant pots — 1 quart and larger. She is almost 80 and is thinning out her perennial gardens on her farm.

Can anyone tell me where I could get some plant pots for free?
