Saturday, pre-game
Posted on November 8th, 2008 – 11:40 AMBy Kent Youngblood
Greetings
Just got back to the press box after being down on the field talking with a bunch of recruits here for a visit. Big class today, as you know, and all of them seemed excited. But the guy who seemed the happiest was quarterback MarQueis Gray, who remains committed to the Gophers and was at the Metrodome lobbying with recruits on the Gophers’ behalf.
Anyway. Eric Decker, his ankle heavily taped, is in uniform, but I didn’t see him doing a whole lot during warmup. We’ll have to see how he does.
Anyway, I don’t think the Gophers make the same mistake they made last week. I think they’ll come out hard from the start.
That’s about it. Have fun watching the game.

If the Gophers lose to a terrible Michigan team and I were the NCAA, I would never choose them for a bowl.
3rd and six and you throw a 2 yard pass to the flat? wtf brewster call a real play…
Horrible offensive play calling. 3 times 3 plays and out already at home to a 2-7 football team and everybody is worried that Brewster would go to Tenn.
I have predicted a Michigan 34-16 victory and I am sticking to it. Unless the Gophers wake up, they are on a decline. The D bends (mostly because of mental mistakes) but does not break; the O is horrible in the past couple of weeks and the trend continues. Chalk it up to a young and not gelled O line (really a sub par O line) as well as no variety by the play calling and preparation. Maybe next year we’ll be in a January bowl game but not this year with the current trend, which shows no sign of changing today.
Weber is playing as if he is expecting a major pass rush on every play; making rush decisions without seeing what the Mich D is giving him; there is no trust in the running game - - for the past 3 to 4 weeks the coaches have known this and little is showing on the field as to changes. It appears as if it is all up to Weber and he is having a very sub par game actually a bad game.
oh my, looks like the goofer bubble is about to bust once again. what a bunch LOSERS!
What game is Dunbar in? Maybe it is Childress calling the plays! Wow, this team is lost their spirit on offense!! Kent, say something!!
Eskridge is running where there is no possible daylight (runs right into the O lines butt cracks) and keeps trying to push. We need someone elusive that has vision and runs to daylight!! I guess they have no one if they keep putting Eskridge in there with totally bad results.
Michigan is “disregarding” a non-existent rushing attack. Spread offense without a first down in a half of football–has this ever happened?
Michigan is practically playing 11 up in the box, because the Gophers will not throw one down the field. Dunbar must be too old to call offensive plays. Even the announcers have said that the Gophers should air it out a couple of times. A very sad display of football.
I called it last week after the poor play of the Gophers. They will not win another big ten game this year. Classic Gophers! They couldn’t beat UMD the way they are playing.
What a pathetic program. Gophs should move to the NSIC for football - they might have a chance.
Gophers’ football practice schedule the past 2 weeks:
Mornings - smoke pot, play X-box, smoke pot
Afternoons - play X-box, smoke crack, play X-box, nap
This is pathetic. The Gophers are being exposed by a sorry Michigan team. All this talk of a turnaround is ridiculous. Schedule 4 Div II quality teams the first month, then lose games against middle of the pack(or worse) Big 10 teams. Quite possibly the worst 7-2 team in history.
Michigan 15, Minnesota 0. Typical Gophers. They get bowl eligible and then take the rest of the year off.
I hope Brewster sends a huge message at halftime - no one’s job is sacred and make some changes. I predicted it earlier this week and saw this team’s complacency and weakness at the O line that they would lose today and game would be over by halftime. It is coming to fruition.
How about throwing the ball to the middle of the field? Where is SHADY?
another long weekend in this pathetic sports state! today the joke of a college team and tomorrow the queens will get their butt kicked by the cheeseheads. oh i forgot, the professional basketball team lost last night. yuk, yuk, yuk! let’s build some more new stadiums! of course sid will have nothing but praise for these LOSERS!
2Nd Qtr. and this game going south really fast. Penalties, motion calls against the offensive line. No running game, weber can’t find anyone open and he is running for his life. And only one first done for the Gophers late in 2nd Qtr. Holding calls on the Gopher Defense, missed tackling opportunities. missed coverage assignments and finally Michigan finally scored its 1st td. 6 1,2,3 and out and all of this is being done in front of a bunch of college recruits. total offense for Gophers 48 yards of total offense. In short this looks like another Glen Mason coached game…finally the half is over….
That last few seconds of the half is the epitome of what is missing: Brewster calls time out (for what?); no attempt to block the punt; no attempt to return the punt; a kneel down and play possum. Arghhh!!! What the hell did they do to prepare - just like last week but much worse. This team in going south. WT?
Go BUCKY
Rah rah rah rah….go brewster. Your a glorified Jim Wacker. So you can recruit (maybe), but you still cant coach a pathetic program like this into success.
Let Pittman run the offense for a couple series. I am headed home to watch the second half and catch a nap–but is there a poorer broadcast team in the Big Ten then Dave Lee & Dave Mona? Are they expecting everyone listening to also be watching the game on ESPN? Why would anyone do that?
It’s pretty clear that Weber does not have the mental make-up needed to be a quality Big Ten QB. He’s clearly scarred from the INT against Northwestern last week. He looks terrified out there. He needs to be replaced now!
welcome back minnesota fans. the game is half over and yo are conceding this game and the rest of the games–the gophers may be playing bad but you all are pathetic.
No sense of urgency - they need to hurry and score quickly or game over!
The only thing that is pathetic is the U of M football program.
Boy - they are definitely playing like a 2-7 team and being coached like they are walking on eggs. Michigan looks and is playing (since the 3rd 3 and out by the Gophers in the 1st quarter) like the 7-2 team. Classic case of a team giving the other team the confidence and momentum. Almost looks like the Gophers are just going through the motions with little enthusiasm and urgency. Weber also needs to begin to not rush everything and be more mature and read the D better. Hype over… lots to improve esp. the O line and the continuing maturation of this team (esp. the offense).
Wonder if Weber is playing hurt or with lots of pain and aches as well as mental fatigue. Sure looks like it. Not the same guy from the previous 8 games.
Brewster acting like Chili’s brother, he’s installing his version of the west crawl offense
Announcer say’s ” with 9:30 to go in game why are they in the huddle” Maybe he is not aware that these are how things are done in “GOPHER NATION”!!!!
That’s about the most pathetic performance I have ever seen by a Minnesota team. Don’t blame the players or coaches, though, they are what they are. Blame the Minnesota media for getting our hopes up. There is nobody…NOBODY…on the Star-Tribune staff that knows anything about any major sport. All they do is print what the coaches tell them to print. It will be a few years before they can get back to the Glen Mason level, and that’s not saying much.
