what about simoni? wasn’t he carried off last sat?

Buck, apparently you haven’t paid enough attention to Decker hopping off the field on a bad ankle or after getting his bell rung big time, yelling at the training staff to get him patched up and back onto the field. The kid has more guts than you’ll ever know. You truly do have the intellect of a small soap dish!

This Brewster needs to win as many games at Madison as that Mason did.

Oh, I guess he already has.

Wren actually made me laugh!

This is a big week for the youngsters to step up on offense, however, it is also a chance for us to see how well the coaches can put together an offensive gameplan that doesn’t revolve around Decker. Look for a few “trick” plays and a lot of misdirection in hopes of catching the WI D sleeping. It could be a long Saturday if they stick to the same plan as the last couple weeks!

Derek says:

No dash. That was just me. I posted under wrenagain2’s moniker the way I often do. It’s so damn easy to post under someone’s moniker. I got pissed off at wren when he was on Gopher Illustrated. I’m a big wheel over at Gopher Illustrated.

I’m a real mamms boy though. I like to type outrageous things about other people and use other people’s monikers. I am totally untrustworthy and am a real poor sport. I will try to stab anybody in the back that I think I can get by with stabbing in the back.

My family was a real mess when I was growing up…it’s really my mom’s fault. I lie and I like trying to get by with stuff.

Hey dash: Just because Mason didn’ win at Madison doesn’t mean that Brewster doesn’t need to in at Madison. Wacker won there. Both Mason and Wacker were fired. It doesn’t look good for this brewster whether he wins at Madison or not…does it dash? ;0)

GOPHER1 says:

November 11th, 2008 at 4:54 pm

Wren it is kind of hard to win at Madison when you have yet to coach a game there.

Dash says:

November 11th, 2008 at 4:57 pm

Oh, it always looks good to win at Madison, and feels even better! I know you’re being facetious in your statement that it doesn’t matter, but you and I both know that a win on Saturday would look great for this program! After all, a 4-11 Big Ten record for this Brewster is better than a 3-12 record, right Wren?

I too wonder how big Spry’s “roll” will be, and I also wonder what kind of “roll” he will be eating — perhaps one filled with some sort of jam?

Haha, I’m just messing with you — I know you write these things quickly, and everybody makes mistakes.

But that doesn’t mean it’s not funny!

I find it interesting that not many of the posters from last year are referencing Zook any longer. Ill will not be going to a bowl game this year after playing in the rose bowl last year with coach Turners players. How could all those top recruiting classes end up 5-7 in Zooks 4th year? Career 36-37 (13-23) at ILL. Add this year into that and if he does not win next year he will be gone.

Observer IV says:

grunkiejr says:

We could just pull out Florida’s excuse/complaint that has already caught on at Illinois. Zook is a great recruiter but a bad game day coach.

Honestly, I’m not sure what there problem is. They have great players in Juice Williams and Arrelious (sp?) Benn and a suitable cast of other WR’s/TE but they are really missing having a game changer at RB. Van De Steeg dominated the man across from him and I suspect that may be a part of the problem with their inconsistency but I haven’t seen enough Illinois games to be sure.

I thought their defense was a lot better last year too. They are missing J. Leman at LB but Vontae Davis is an absolute stud at CB.

This brewster has a Big Ten record of 3-11. That will either improve or it will bury him deeper and deeper towards the point of no return. It appears to me that unless he dumps this dunbar and this no run, easty/westy/dinky/dunky/little offense this brewster will not be around a lot longer either. Each Big Ten loss will weigh him down. A Big Ten coach must win a significant number of Big Ten games to survive.

wrenagain2 says:

That Mason could not win many Big Ten games and THAT was why he was canned. This Brewster better start winning more Big Ten games or else. I have been diagnosed as a total sociopath and I will stop at nothing. I am Recruiter. I am jimbo. I am all kinds of people. I am one of the drunk-a-logue people over on gh.

I will bring this blog down. That IS my goal. It is too hard to control thought and expression on this board. I will go to what ever lengths I have to go to so that I may destroy any point of view other than my own. I am dac!

Isn’t dac just a great disrupter? I sure hope that big guy doesnt chace pewterschmidt and me around again this year in Madion though. He even threw a beer can at us.

There is absolutely NO way the Gophers will beat Wisconsin on Saturday. Without Decker and a running game it’s not going to happen. If the greatest coach on the planet (Mase) can’t win in Madison then no one can. We’ll have to get our 8 victories against Iowa or in our bowl game.

So, anybody planning on drinking a lot and trying to start trouble, go right ahead. I’ll own everything you’ve got. Drink your firewater…do your drugs littlebighangover. There are all kinds of laws against what you are attempting to propose. You start throwing punches you are going to pay, and pay until there is nothing more that you USED to have to pay with. And, I hate Big Ten losses. I will NOT ignore any Big Ten losses that this brewster wracks up. He does need to ditch this dunbar. It will take a little heat off him for a little while…

The news crews will shoot it…keep score and the world will probably be a better place to like if these brewster tough talkers and the bad-ger bad mouth boys go at it and wipe each other out. Drink up drunks! Start the day before. Drink all night. Barf all over the dirty streets of madison.

Sane, sober fans of both teams will shake their heads at you and wonder what the hell has happened to the once proud tradition of a border battle that ;involved a nice little rivalry on the football field. I have been struck that based upon what happens in madison…day in and day out…if it is not the bitter end of the Western Civilization…you can at least see the end there.

Smash othe drunken fans wearing the other colors. Shoot ‘em. Break their bones and breadk their heads. Stab ‘em. Show the world how drunk and how stupid you are. And then…be prepared to spend a LONG time in some stinking madison jail. Be prepared to have law suites coming your way. Be prepared to had the Governor of wisky start cramping down BIG TIME on your stinking camp randall. Bring out the National Guard…madison is a heck of a lot more messed up than some other places they have deployed them during the past half century.

madison is going to the dogs and the drunken badger bucks…buck up you drunken badger buck tough talking cap letter freak. Pack heat on Saturday. Bring a hunting knife. Smash bucky smash…or at least get commode hugging drunk and stay that way for days and days! Or at least talk drunk and stupid. madison is the drunk-tank of the midwest…

Sober people…have a nice time. If any of the drunks start making problems identify them and sue the hell out of ‘em!

This is the first game this year I can not envision a way the Gophers can win. If they pull it off, and like I said, very unlikely imo, I will be shocked. Here is what would have to happen to get a win:
1) offense somehow scores 17 points
2) defense shuts down the UW run
3) positive turnover ratio
4) limited # of penalties
5) one big special teams play (punt or KO returned for points)
6) a solid, confidence-building start that keeps the crowd somewhat restrained
7) Weber only sacked twice or less
8) What else???

Stranger things have happened. Good luck to the team and fans who venture into Madison.

There is a small chance of victory, but it is indeed very small.

You tough talking bad ger drunken bums and head-hunting goobers really do have NO sense of things. What you say you hate in others, you foster and like about your own if they have some success on the killing fields…er…make that football field at camp randall. bury alvarez had a bunch of thugs. Recall that little incident that ron dayne got himself into his red-shirt year? He and another teammate jumped one of their other teammates after practice one night and worked him over pretty darn well. And…that old shoebox slush fund and bad ger players cash give away machine incident. Thestinking bad gers practices areas low as the other low rent practices in Big Ten athletic programs. Yes, I do think the haskin’sscandal at Minnesota was the worst of the worst, and the hoops program probably SHOULD have been given the death penalty for that. Minnesota hoops has had a horrible record and Minnesota is as bad or worse than the bad gers just because of that single incident. However, the bad gers football program has been pretty damn bad too when it comes to be a rule-breakinginstitution of the Big Ten Conference. Minnesota and wisky and iowa have all been pretty suspect in trying to catch up with others

when you throw in your “war-chants” among the fans talk bad ger buck…maybe it’s time to just shut the athletic programs down and focus on educating people so that they won’t end up the way you have obviously ended up you wisky-breath -trsh-talking clown.

Will it be next year? The year after? Boyond those dates we don’t even know who the coach will be…what style offense will be played…if the academic adventures and challenges are met…if there is good fortune and good health…just one heck of a lot of unanswered questions that young players HAVE to experience and work their way thgrough.

But, I hope I have time…at least I have today. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? For me? Fou you? For the young lad? For this brewster? For this dunbar? Lots of questions need to be answered before I’ll celebrate with too much reckless abandon…

So, tex, have you got any guarantees to go along with that personal endorsement based on a little visual some buddy of yours claims to have changed his personal life? What’s he doing hanging around practices any way?

Here is the thing: some of you want to take a trip to la la fantasy football world based on someone you know who hear someone he knows say something he thinks based upon something somebody else believes could happen some day. Live in la la fantasy high school recruiting wonderland, but don’t keep writing about it every day, all the time, 24/7/365. It’s up to me to counter-balance your pie in the sky la la fantasy high school recruitig stuff tex. A high school all-star game and a practice is a lot of hype, smoke and mirrors based upon a lot of hope and conjecture, if you ask me.

This brewster doesn’t have forever to start winning significant numbers of Big Ten games, tex. Too many more losses and he will progress down the Big Ten loss column too far to ever come back. That darn throw away first season in 2007 is just killing him. And, now, if he throws away the 2nd half of the 2008 Big Ten seaon that could be a real killer for him. This brewster’s best bet to distract people would be to ditch this dunbar offensive coordinator at the end of this season for a new OOC. That might take a little heat off fora little while. Sorry tex, somebody has to look at thow things are in the here and the now…

And all I am saying is that before becoming too excited, let all the things that a kid going to college has to have happen to him before counting on anything.

Going to college is a great time of life. There are a lot of responsibilities that have to be taken care of. Both academic responsibilities and football responsibilities. There is also the social side of things. There is the being an 18 year old kid kind of things.

Before he can add to any Big Ten win totals, he has SO many equally important things to experience, become acquanted with and to succeed at.

Football WILL happen for him IF he takes care of being a college student.

He also needs to pick up the systems. Then, of course, he also has to be lucky enough to stay away from major injuries and to learn to be tough enough to play through the nicks, scrapes, bruises and physical aspects of being a college Division I football player.

I wish him well. I am impressed that he has stuck with taking care of business. I hope he has learned a lot in this whole process. I sincerely hope he makes the most of his opportunity. He is showing that he does want to make his stad at the University of Minnesota. That is a very good thing!

I’m just not counting on all kinds of Big Ten wins because he has arrived on the scene though. Time will tell. ONLY time will tell about that vital statistic.

david_allen_coe says:

d_a_c-off: What has happened with Gray is only one of the possible things that may or may not happen for him. This only cost him part of a year in being with the team and being in school. It didn’t cost him any elegibility. The odds of a high school star starring in nearly the same way or to the same extent in college are SO small. What are potential wash out areas for each high school star before they become a college star with the ability to impact a Big Ten football season?

1. Problems being admitted to the college.

2. Problems with academics once admitted.

3. Problems picking up the new, more complicated systems.

4. Work ethic problems.

5. Lack of emotional maturity.
(This could also include legal problems, domestic/relationship problems, parental problems, family issues, any number of things could fall into this area.)

6. Injury problems.

7. Not being able to compete and win a starting spot (This is especially true for a qb…there is usually only ONE starting qb each season…barring injury. The odds are against quarterbacks unless they can pick up an additional position or two.)

8. Not liking the college…coach…team…players on the team…being homesick…any number of factors could be inserted here.

9. Not being as talanted as someone else at the same position. Developing an attitude problem because of self-perceived lack of playing time due to competition factors out of the control of the individual athlete.

10. Finding the college version of football to be too intense, or, finding out that there is more to life than football and the desire and drive just isn’t there any longer.

Or, enough factors come together so that by the Junior or Senior year, playing time is earned and contributions on Game Day Saturday can be made.

Finally, in a very rare occasion, instant stardom is achieved and all goes well. In this case, health must hold out, academic progress must be made and a real love for playing the game of football manages to prevail.

For any kid just starting a college football career…it is a REAL crap-shoot. There are so many variables. There are so many roadblocks and hazzards along the way. One star…three stars…four stars…even five stars…only time will tell.

1. November 15, 2008?

5. It really doesn’t matter what happens
