Still waiting
Posted on January 14th, 2009 – 2:21 PMBy Kent Youngblood
Greetings.
I know it’s been a while since I blogged. Guess it took that much time to work up the nerve. Last time I posted I was accused of kissing up to the coach and of being a part of the global wisconsin consipiracy because I used to work in Madison. Here’s more grist for that mill: (I still live in Wisconsin!)
Anyway, according to coach Tim Brewster, the job of Gophers offensive coordinator has not yet been awarded. He said today that he still has one more interview to do and that the name should be announced by Monday. It could come earlier, I suppose. In fact, I would think he’d want to have a guy in place for the visits scheduled this weekend.
That’s about all I have right now. I’ll update you with more later if something happens.

KEEP HIDING TIMM@!
Thanks Kent! I appreciate all the info that you provide. I think you gave a pretty honest assessment of Cosgrove. People should play a wait and see game with him instead of jumping all over him.
Cosgrove is horrible. Anyone that tries to paint it different is just wasting their breath! The OC job is also going to be a joke. Nice Homerun! Yeah, nice killer Shot, Brewster! The guy is a joke. He is so full of BS, everything he says is a joke! Nothing he ever says comes true, NOTHING!
What hasn’t come true?
Thanks Kent. I’m hating the waiting but an update is helpful.
G–thanks for that 307 post on the previous thread of Kent’s.
Brewster you dumb@ss! What the hell are you doing? Are you still lining up the killshot?
Whoever used the Bret B name, your response is about what I would expect from him. Nice category to put yourself in poster!
I now live in MO but lived in MPLS for 25 yrs. and had Gopher football season tickets for six yrs. Your reference to Ram coaches for OC is troublesome. For the last few yrs. that team has had no clue. Lets face it no one wants to either go to MN or to coach for Brew.

aaaaahhhhhh WISCONSIN!! ooohh noooooo.
From a gopher fan living in Nebraska - the truth is Cosgrove was horrible down here. This is not a good hire. Roof had them much improved but certainly not great. If Cosgrove can match this years performance that would be the best we can expect and more than likely we are headed in the other direction.
Brewster obviously can’t get the OC he wanted and this could be the end of him in MN if it doesn’t work out.
How about let’s see what 2009 holds?
Boo Hoo.
mason made 2006 an NDSU year.
7-5 would be very hopeful
C’mon Kent!!! You getting a little defensive? You are not anything close to a jounalist and that is fine. Calling you a journalist is like saying the hot dogs at the 7-11 are made by chefs. Your complete and total lack of professionalism is obvious as you still call the Dunbar departure a resignation.
Kent, you know for a fact that Brew has offered the job to at least 7 NFL assistants and 5 college coaches. YOU KNOW IT FOR A FACT and you still carry Brew’s water and say he has not offered the job to anyone.
Brewster is the joke of the party in Nashville last weekend and the lap dogs in cyber space don’t realize the joke is going to be on them.
Kent, just admit who you are and accept it. You throw more softballs then Larry King!
I’m an optimist for this team to a fault. Cosgrove isn’t exciting, but I think the fact that he’s a co-cordinator says a lot. I think promoting Lee was a good idea. I’m a sucker for hiring within.
I’m excited to see who lands the OC job. Jeff Horton could be a pretty good hire.
Thanks for all of the updates, Kent. Don’t let the belchers get you down!
Kent: it is the “macturian candidates that I take issue with. I don’t want former badger coaches who were forced out the door in madison to be coaches at the University of Minnesota…especially when we are stuck with a wisky joke of an athletic director named macturi who was a “gopher” for Pat Richter when richter was the ad at wisky.
The “Macturian Candidate” maker…this macturi, MUST be fired or forced to “resign” (so we won’t have to buy out his newly extended contract) in order that a new ad can be in place to hire this brewster’s replacement. You see, it is highly likely that this brewster will continue to lose TOO many Big Ten games in 2009 with his all too common better dead than red former wisky coaching staff that the former badger assistant ad macturi helped him hire.
All of thses wisky pants are disgraceful.
Since you are working for the strib and are NOT one of the zombi-like “macturian candidates…” for the Gopher coaching staff…the fact you live in wisky is of no consequences.
We don’t even ask for a loyalty oath. The brewster apologists may ask for loyalty oaths, but since you are not a candidate to be the former badger who will be hired to be a “co” coordinator of any sort, I could care less where you stand on the stinking badger issue. ( ; 0) )
So, live well and prosper, no matter where you live. I live just across the Mississippi River from wisky territory. I have been known to venture over to La Crosse once in a blue moon. I really have nothing against the fine folks who call wisky home. I just don’t want the Gopher Athletic Department too clogged up with former badger coaches…and I certainly don’t want Gopher Football run further into the ground than what this brewster has managed to do all on his own since arriving on the scene. macturi…now cosgrove…ENOUGH is ENOUGH. Gopher Football was not intended to be coached by formr badger rejects…and the athletic department needs a ned director! Ditch this maturi of madison….
Someone had to say it, way to go Water Carrier! I think your numbers might even be low, however! He is throwing this job offer out to anyone and everyone and no takers as his reputation preceeds him vey well at this point. Keep begging for a few more days, Tim, someone is bound to say yes sooner or later!
andover j,
2009 will hold more of what 2007 & 2008 did; complete ineptitude for gopher football.
I don’t like the idea/concept of co-coordinators.
OK Water Carrier. Its now your turn.
Since you are under the impression Kent is being smug, then tell us?
Since you proclaim to be in the know, tell us; who are the 7 NFL and 5 CFB coaches that have actually received an offer from Brewster.
I agree with whomever suggested that Brewster take over OC himself and save the money, since they still have to pay Dunbar anyway. That puts the responsibilty squarely on himself and will make it easier to evaluate him at the end of 2009. Or make him and Davis co-OC. Be the only school with two pairs of coordinator. He has really messed things up so far this year.
Thanks for the update, Kent. Try to ignore the nutjobs who get off on posting anonymous shots on the internet. I know it’s hard to do, but keep in mind that overwhelming # of readers who check your blog (I do a couple times a day) don’t even look at the comments for reasons you’ve stated numerous times.
I’d argue that you could turn off comments all together and not lose any readership. This would also close a venue for the haters who can’t share opinions without taking shots at someone.
Good call Bayfield. Let’s here it Water. Who are all of the people who HAVE been offered the position? I’m curious to hear who HAS been offered, since you are clearly involved in the search you have this information. Why not share it with us?
Dan,
Is your last name, Blackkettle?
“Thanks for the update, Kent. Try to ignore the nutjobs who get off on posting anonymous shots on the internet.”
You are posting an anonymous shot on the internet as well. Do you realyse this or are you just slow? It easy to see why you are a blind follower.
I’ve never understood the “blind follower” comments. Why is it so wrong to cheer for the state university win, lose or draw?
Ski-u-mah,
Trust me, there is nothing wrong with cheering for the football team and coach Brew. Just ignore the haters, they will always be there. Rather, enjoy what is happening with this program and the improvements they continue to stirve for.
As for you Ee, you’re calling someone slow after you spell realize, “realyse”. Now that’s “the pot calling the kettle black”.
Agreed Ski-u-mah! The other term is “homer.” Yes, I’m a homer and proud of it.
Of course, if I lived in Madison it would likely be a different story. But, then again, I’d never live in Madison.
The posters here that continually butcher the English language with their errors in punctuation, spelling, case, usage, etc. are quite humorous. They blatantly display their inability to have mastered a basic skill required to function productively in society.
Perhaps their time would be better spent taking a night school course in “English as a First Language?”

It’s the KFAN syndrome. If you don’t “rip” everything a coach does, you are a blind follower. Crap started by Sid’s kid and Burrito that simple minded 15 yr old boys throw around all day long.

I’m not at all excited by the Cosgrove hire. That said, I have a friend who is a Bugeater follower like yourself. He thinks Cosgrove is alright. He said the first couple years Cosgrove had pretty good defenses at NU, but his last year overshadows the previous years.
Kent:
You threatened to do away with the trash posters here. We warned you about Loon and Wren from Day 1. Bud called you out, add him to the mix.
As far as you being in Wisconsin, I don’t like borderjumpers. It should cost you $1 to cross the bridge every morning.
Cosgrove will be fine. Don’t expect him to try and invent the wheel. The gophs showed a lot of progress on defense last year (yes wren, I know, not in the Iowa game). The athleticism will continue to improve with improved recruiting. The class this year again looks very good. Whoever does get the O-coordinator job should have some nice pieces to work with and could definitely make a big impact. I am intrigued by the Joe Horton speculation. Sound like he could also be a very good recruiter.
You are dreaming bisker.
Oh, and you forgot the (s) behind “sound.”
EVER WONDER WHAT MACK BROWN THOUGHT ABOUT HIS ONE-TIME, PRE-SCHOOL STUDENT, COACH WONDERFUL, GOING BEHIND HIS BACK AND TRYING TO STEAL ONE OF HIS COACHES??? EVER WONDER IF HE JUST HAD A GOOD LAUGH AT TINY TIM’S FULTILE ATTEMPT TO BACKSTAB MAJOR APPLEWHITE AWAY FROM TEXAS?!

There’s enormous difference between typographical errors and ignorance, Ee.
Ok Andy Rooney, let’s play that game. How about Auburn going behind the scene to talk with Roof? That’s ok? Plus, how do you know that Brewster didn’t have permission to speak with Applewhite? You don’t since you are not involved in the search.
Hey Water, should be add Gunter Brewer to your list?
Hey Water, should we add Gunter Brewer to your list?
If they get Gunter Brewer that would be a killer of a hire, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.
This from a man that claims it’s going to be Norm Chow. ![]()
I’d still take Norm Chow in a heartbeat as our OC.
No one seems to want to be a “co” coordinator of the offensive persuasion for this 3-13 lifetime Big Ten record brewster. Are “co” coordinator “mactuian candidates” afraid that they will be part of ZERO to fifty five coaching gems drawn up and designed by this gm wanna-be brewster?????
It just doesn’t look good or sound very good. Obviously maturi has let this brewster stick his foot in his mouth entirely too many times. Who is in charge over there?????? maturi needs to be held accountable and he needs to be accountable now. How much money is he wasting on buying out contracts over there????? This maturi is incapable of being in charge of fiscal matters. How much is he paying that dunbar for “resigning??????”
This maturi has a mess going on over there in the football offices. A REAL mess.
Sure seems like Marcus Fuller is working a little harder on this story for the PP.

Quite true, Jumbo, but a sublety not understood by ignorant haters like buffloonatic, wrenbawlsbabbler, and Ee (also wrenbawlsbabbler).
Star Tribune files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
Facing sharp revenue declines, the newspaper seeks bankruptcy protection, hoping to cut costs and restructure debt.
By DAVID PHELPS, Star Tribune
The Star Tribune, saddled with high debt and a sharp decline in print advertising, filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition Thursday night.
Minnesota’s largest newspaper will try to use bankruptcy to restructure its debt and lower its labor costs.
This brewster is doing himself in with every Big Ten game he loses. His henchdudes and henchdudettes, which ever the case may make excuses and attack others, yet, in the end, all that this brewster amounts to is his 3-13 Big Ten record.
Ditch maturi to prepare the way for replacing this brewster. His throw away seasons in 2007 and the 2nd half of the Big Ten season in 2008 will not be overcome with a 5-7 type season in 2009. This maturi has run out of luck and he certainly is running out of time. The clock is ticking on this prexy b. He is too long of tooth and his fiscal loose ship-style of wasting millions and millions of dollars buying out coaches he recently extended or hired will happily force him into a retirement situation within the next couple of years. Time waits for no prexy and this prexy b is coming to the end of his time at the U. When that happens, the “macturian candidate…” will lose his base of support and the house of cards that he has haphazzardly constructed in the Football Program will come tumbling down. “…ain’t it funny…how time ticks away…” They say every dog has it’s day and the days of those dogs over at the U are running out of time…. ; 0)
Gold04–you have to like the sounds of this: “I understand how some people might be apprehensive about hiring a coach from the Arena League,” said Hohensee, who was a Gophers quarterback in 1981 and 1982, “But I’ve had a lot of success developing quarterbacks over the years. Minnesota is a type of job where I would end my career. I’m definitely not looking for a stepping stone.”
Wren: Is there a point to you writing “dude or dudette, whichever the case maybe”? or in this case “hencedude/dudette”? Is that supposed to be a slam of some sort? To anyone with any sort of intelligence, it comes across as disrespectful and wreaks of ignorance.
Man, I would love to have my BB season ticket seats from 1979 back. Huge win last night. I am anxious to get this OC selection secured so I can move on to the BB season.
EVER WONDER WHY T. PAIGE WOULD DE-COMMITT WHEN HE HAD A TREMENDOUS OPPORTUNITY TO BE COACHED BY THE GREAT DEFENSIVE MIND, KEVIN COSGROVE?
Wow, Tex, you’re a little late to move on to basketball. Have you noticed they’re 16-1 overall, 4-1 in the Big Ten? With road wins in 2 of the toughest areas in the conference?
You need to learn to multi-task, Tex!:-)
Oops, I meant “toughest arenas.”
Andy, you have to get past the gatekeepers (admissions).
Jimbo–I have been following the BB program but wanted to put this FB season in the books for the year before I shifted gears to Myron’s BB blog. Now, I am beginning to wonder when I can do that. We need an OC hire soon. And then, that staff needs to stay intact for the duration of Brewster’s contract if he has any chance at major success.

andy—talk football and leave that kind of talk out of here. Who is your pick to be OC??
Comments on the hole are that Paige didn’t make it through UM admissions. Whatever. The bottom line is he won’t be a Gophers.
d_a_c: prexy b will find out what it is like to go to the legislators asking for more money this year when the state is facing a 5 billion to 8 billion deficit. This pexy b has thrown away so much money extending contracts, then buying them out and he still has’nt come up with the hard, cold cash to pay for the Mason, Monson buy outs. Then, macturi extended Borton…then, pexyb b extended macturi (golden parachute for this macturi to keep his mouth shut when he gets fired)…then out of the goodness of their hearts prexy b and this macturi character decided to pay this dunbar his salary for 2009 even though this dunbar supposedly resigned. A few million here and a few million there and pretty soon a prexy is running the budget of the U of M right into the ground. No problem though…this prexy b can just raise tuition! Have their raised all the money for the stadium????? Here there is a great depression or worse and this prexy b has been throwing money around like a drunken booster club dude or dudette! Is the U of M too big to go belly-up????? The taxpayers haven’t got enough tax money to bail this prexy b out unless he starts taking care of the fiscal responsibilities of the U. Look out students and parents of students…there may be a hefty tuition increase that you can’t afford coming up. Look out academic staff…they are going to have to freeze your salary…if you are lucky. Fees will have to start rising to pay for this dunbar fiasco.
Will the “macturian candidate” extend this brewster’s contract????? I understand the saffs at NU, Michigan, wisky, iowa and even Kansas are passing the hat to help macturi get this brewster’s contract extended.
So, d_a_c, protection from creditors may be an option that prexy b will have to explore for the U sooner rather than later while he tries to reorganize his contract buy out debts. This prexy b has been running his football organization right into the ground. I think he should look into stepping down. He is SO “long of tooth…” and money just burns a hole in his pocket. That 3 year extension as a golden parachute for macturi really was pathetic.
Taxpayers don’t fund the football program, idiot. Football, basketball, and hockey pay all the bills for the men’s and women’s non-revenue sports, something the taxpayers should be doing or drop them.
Attorney busted for drugs in Winona court
Associated Press
WINONA, Minn. - The attorney representing an accused killer in Winona was in custody himself Friday for allegedly possessing drugs.
_____________
Let’s also hope the cops come down hard on the whiny little miscreant who manufactured that meth in his Winona-area trailer camp.
OK, I’m ashamed to admit it, but based on d_a(sp)_c’s 12:45 PM post, I took the time to read wren’s idiotic rantings at 12:01 PM. Check out these exerpts:
“This pexy b has thrown…”
“…he still has’nt come up…”
“…then, pexyb b extended macturi…”
“Have their raised all the money for the stadium?????”
“I understand the saffs at NU, Michigan…”
—————-
All I can say is, “Wow!”
Is this characacter for real?
Birdy writing is on Myrons BB blog and only writes half paragraphs there. Must be tired out from writing the books of the same old CRAP here.
By the way, what’s a “saff?”
d_a_c: IF taxpayers don’t fund coaching extension buyouts, why the hell did prexy b dip into the General Fund of the University of Minnesota to fund the Mason and Monson buy outs????? This prexy b must play really fast and loose with the tax payers money if he dipped into that fund to borrow the bucks that he had to come up with to set up a seven year plan to buy out Mason and Monson and then hire this brewster and his BIG $$$$$ fancy offensive and defensive coordinators…(dunbar and withers) Perhaps this prexy b has been skimming more money from the General Fund of the University of Minnesota to fund the continued pay for the 2009 season for this dunbar who supposedly resigned. It would appear that this prexy b and this maturi dip into the General Fund pretty much at will????? This prexy b makes trips to the State House in St. Paul to get funding for the General Fund of the University of Minnesota. THAT is supposed to run that little academic mission of the U of M…isn’t it????? Or doesn’t any one care about that part of the Unviersity of Minnesota?????
No wonder there are so many tuition hikes over there. The students and their parents can eat their hearts out, I guess…because this prexy b has had lots of extended contracts to buy out in the Football Department using that General Fund money.
methlab asks,
“IF taxpayers don’t fund coaching extension buyouts, why the hell did prexy b dip into the General Fund of the University of Minnesota to fund the Mason and Monson buy outs?????”
_______
Even in your dirty business you should understand cash flow. The general fund did not pay for the buyouts. The general fund lent cash for the buyouts and the athletic department will repay it.
When, where and how the heck is the athletic department going to repay the General fund. I want to see the evidence of that d_a_c. You try so hard and you just come out as such an obnoxious jerk. You show the whole world how you are with each and every post.
This brewster is failing miserably. He is going down the tubes. He is flaming, crashing and burning as he bumbles his way through his one shot at a head coaching position. The dude just wants to be a gm. He doesn’t know how to coach and he doesn’t even really want to coach.
Ditch this maturi in a hurry.
prexy b should be fired for dipping into the general fund to do his ill-advised contract extensions followed by quick buy outs of those extended contracts. It shows this prexy b acts on impulse and does NOT have good, sound reasoning governing his actions as the prexy of the University of Minnesota. He has not been a responsible prexy. He should take the honorable way out and retire now. He is too long of tooth to hold the job he holds and he has been lacking in fiscal judgement and responsibility with his overseeing of the football program. He makes the calls…this maturi, prexy b’s cover guy willtake the falls. That is why he gave this maturi a 3 year contract extension last year. It is money for this prexy b to take the falls and to keep his mouth shut… : 0(
This whiney, bumbling rinbawlbabbler does not want to run his business. He does not want to cook his meth or load his buffloonatic pack mules. He does not want to service Winona attorneys. He does not want to pick up around his trailer. This bumbling, stumbling stupid rinbawlbabybabbler just wants to consume his product and blather.
This brewster loses Big Ten football game and 2009 will be brutal for him in Big Ten Football games. 1 or 2 Big Ten wins will do it.
I feel sorry for you pathetic brewster apologists. The beginning of the end for this brewster has arrived. After 2010, this prexy b will certainly have retired. He is older than Moses and he is entirely too long of tooth. Once he is gone, this maturi will start collecting his golden parachute mony that prexy b provided for him to keep him quiet. Once this maturi is gone, this brewster will be history.
Call people names d_a_c. You continue to show what you are, how you are and why you are low-rent and out of time. It’s really all over but the shouting d_a_c.
