Another OC candidate
Posted on January 20th, 2009 – 1:38 PMBy Kent Youngblood
Another name has surfaced as a strong candidate for the job of Gophers’ offensive coordinator: Jedd Fisch.
According to sources Fisch, 32, has emerged as the most likely replacement for Mike Dunbar
Fisch just finished his first year as wide receivers coach for the Denver Broncos. In all he has eight years of NFL assistant coaching experience. Friom 2004-07 he was with the Baltimore Ravens, first as an offensive assistant, then as assistant quarterbacks and receivers coach and finally as assistant quarterbacks coach.
Before that he spent three years in defensive quality control with the Houston Texans. Before his third season with Houston Fisch underwent surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm and spent the 2003 system handling mainly off-the-field activities.
Fisch is a native of LIvingston, N.J. and is a graduate of the University of Florida. He was a graduate assistant with the Gators in 1999 and 2000.
Fisch became available after Mike Shanahan was fired. He has reportedly been considered for the offensive coordinator job in Detroit by new coach Jim Schwartz.
Fisch was given credit for his work with Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall, who made 104 receptions for 1,265 yards in 2008.

Thanks for the update, Kent!
Who?
More of the blind leading the blind………..unbelievable……..
Ross,
Read, it’s right there in the article.
I like the hire. Experience coaching Steve McNair (good for Weber, Gray and Alipate), endorsed by Shanahan for an NFL coordinator spot, coached NFL wide receivers at Denver. Better then all the other names out there.
Recruiting: Yeah like you know the first thing about him or his qualifications. Gotta love the blogs!
Tom,is this technically a blog or a comment string? I’m not a computer guy but I thought it was the latter.
“Tryin’ to keep his family fed”…
I was wondering how long it would take to grab someone that was between jobs in the NFL–that is what you usually end up with when the head coach is not exactly on solid ground with the AD/fans.
Recruiting. Who were you expecting? Brian Billick? Joe Paterno? Bill Belichick? Pete Carroll? Pull your head out of your backside and either stand by your team or find a different one to degrade.
Ha! i really enjoy readings these boards…”More of the blind leading the blind………..unbelievable……..”

This nobody apparently knows more about football then Mike Shanahan. If someone who won a few Superbowls recommends someone to be my assistant, i think i might listen to him, not some d-bag scout.com addict!
buckbravo.com has some good links for info on the new gopher oc Fisch.
Didn’t Brewster say this would be a “wow” hire or a “suprise” yadda yadda? Well he held true to his word! (yawn)
so, is this the only guy who would accept the job? one of brewhahas unemployed cronies from the broncos?

You mean the unemployed distick who was recently shit-canned?? Nice vouch!! Remember the last time maniac hired a NFL position coach with 0 coordinator experience to be a coordinator??????? You have a TE coach and a WR coach running the offense……ROSE BOWL4SURE!!!!!!!
If chicken little read these blogs he would think the sky was falling. Just think, an interviewee for an NFL Offensive Coordinator is hired to be the offensive coordinator for the Golden Gophers, fabulous. A young NFL experienced coach comes to Minnesota to teach the boys how to ROCK N ROLL.
GET REAL everyone, this would be a great hire, even chicken little know that.
Confirmation?

I don’t understand why the U of M ever had to ’search’ for a new head football coach. With all the experts that post here they could have hired a local and had by far the greatest coach ever to walk the face of the earth. There is so much football wisdom hear I’m suprised Coach Brew doesn’t just tap into this knowledge and win it all year after year. Heck with the Rose Bowl, I’m talking national champs with all this advice!
Thanks for the link poke. Hopefully there will be an official annoucement tomorrow. Fisch definitely should be able to help with the recruiting! Go Gophs!!
Moron experts (this means Recruiting among others), please tell me who USC just hired as their new OC. That is correct, Jeremy Bates. The same Jeremy Bates who was most recently the QB coach for the Broncos and was recommended by Shanahan. The same Jeremy Bates who has a VERY similar resume’ to our new OC. Personally, I will take a guy recommended by Shanahan and has very similar credentials to the new OC for USC.
Looks like the same Rose Bowl dance the homers were jigging two years ago when the unqualified HC was “the greatest hire ever!” Move over brew, make room for Killa Shot II!!! Step off Florida…its over for you beeeatches!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Shortstop, if you have time to think past your stupid mouth, answer this; “which new OC will have a viable head coach to mentor/break him in?” Also; since you are chewing with your mouth open…….does the QB RUN THE OFFENSE or do the WRs????????????????????????????????????? Just wondering………..
Third, if the powerful Shanahan endorsement means so much, why didn’t Fish get the Lions job??????? What do they have to lose??????? Your [uncle]is “almost” like a father to you, isn’t he?
Recruiting, you seriously need to get a hobby and quit lingering around this blog with your over the top negativity. Doesn’t your mom need you to come upstairs and do your chores throughout the day?
Nice hire by Brewster. I’m not sure how many recruiting contacts Fisch has, but NFL-cred goes a long ways with HS and JUCO recruits looking to develop into NFL players.
All we are saying… is give FISCH a chance!
Didn’t see this one coming did you?
All we are saying… is give WITHERS a chance! Fool you idiots twice, shame on you!!!!!!!!!!!!
Withers did a pretty darn good job at North Carolina this past year didn’t he? Roof did a fantastic job this season and got a $150,000 raise for it(on top of being the highest paid DC in the Big Ten).
I think Brewster is doing a fine job in picking his coordinators. I also think he is doing a great job with the selection of his position coaches.

NC? WTF???????? Bro, you have the brain of an ameba!!!!
If Shanahan say he is good he probably isn’t too bad, Shanny is a pretty good judge of talent. Remember Belicheck got fired and became a genius at NE. Lets wait and see.
Cruding go dry up someplace. Your a complete IDIOT, NOMIND, FOOL
Bingo, thats what I said yesterday AM. Pretty good Gold4. Is it not funny how all of Dereks post come when they let him out of class for recess. Between 12 and 1 like clock work. I would love to be a fly on the coaches press box wall this season. Three heads with no one having ever called a play in a real game.
HEY Recruiting, is it that time of the month for you? It is, isn’t it ! You Princess.
Don’t like the difficult issues and answers either, mio dolche?
Recruiting Che lingua è Dolche? This is not Italian. What difficult questions? You, me, and the rest of this blog will never be involved in the decision making process. So what point are you making other than expressing your point of view and belittling others who do not agree with you. If you hate the Gophers and the people who make the decisions for the Gopher athletic department then why even care what the Gophers do ? Like I said you are on the rag aren’t you?
I still think Bud should be running this program since he is the all knowing football mind. That and his “clients” are so well connected, he would have the team in the national title game next season.
I’m starting the “Fire Brewster, Hire Bud” campaign now. Anyone else think bud would be a good hire?
Bud, what would you like? Dunbar has a wealth of experience caling plays, yet you have sat here the past two seasons and ripped him for his play calling. Now Brewster hires an up and coming coach and you are blasting him for not having any experience. You can’t have it both ways Bud.
Bud doesn’t want it both ways. For Bud there is one way and one way only … trash Gopher football, belittle and degrade Gopher football players, and lie in the weeds like a coward waiting to stab the coach in the back at every turn.
While I may not have the extensive coaching background that Bud has, I can assure you that my time as a graduate assistant at Florida and my time in the NFL has given me some sense of what it will take to make a significant contribution to this team. I look forward to your continued support. Bud, if you have any suggestions for me please free to let me know through one of your many insider contacts.
I’m pulling for Bud. He has years of experience: from playing touch football to watching NFL today.
He also logged a 40 time of 8.3.
I’m fairly certain after the Petters Trial, he’ll be looking for work and we should be able to get him cheap.
Scooter … Is it true Bud was Tom’s driver?
PS
I gots a reeeeeeeal puuuuuuuuuurteeee mouth!
I actually think, Bud would be such a good coach that he could save the U millions of $$$ by coaching the team himself. He is such a brilliant football mind that he wouldn’t need assistant coaches.

LMAOR. It’s called a job Bud. Unl;ike your worthless ass, I don’t have the time to post at all hours of the day. I already told ya where I work, so whats the holdup Mr internet tough guy?
How predictable:
The Ioway fan- Pantherhawk aka recruiting aka Tt aka Waterboy aka hireacoach is mocking the hire.
Bud- Thinks he is a better hire, the scout free board (which is what he calls his “clients”) mocks the hire.
The metal reject- Wayne Wrendahl aka Loon aka the renegade say we should throw in the towel. While I don’t read his posts any longer, I suspect there is also a comment or two about “MACturi”. Now I’ll wait for the idiot to prank call my house. If I answer the loser hangs up. If I let it go to voice mail, I’ll get a pathetic message about GI and the Strib boards. This guy has serious mental issues.
JC himself could have been hired and they would all say the same thing.
Tell me where you work, Derek?

I believe he walked Tom’s dogs (ie. clients).
Do we even want to know how wayne has your phone number?? So sad to see a relationship end badly and then turn bitter on-line–LMAOR!
Is it not interesting how some people can not stand to be So wrong. As soon as it appears that some one outside of your little Brewster for President circle gets it correct without your knowledge of the situation you have to start throwing out the insults. That is just fine with me because I am not going away. At the end of Brewsters stay here in MN we will see who was right.

During the day hours I am a reading Tutor for Brad Banks. He never was able to read at Iowa, but now He is able to now read at a 2nd grade level. We are hopeful he will someday be a functioning adult.
During the evening hours I help run a rehab center. Coach Ferentz always keeps us in business. Both of these businesses are in your home town of Cedar Falls PH!
