Some good news for the Maresh family
Posted on February 22nd, 2009 – 12:00 PMBy Kent Youngblood
Gophers recruit Sam Maresh and his family received some good news over the weekend with the results of the biopsy of the tumor in his left calf. According to a post on the family’s CaringBridge web site, it was ”a dense tissue of no significance …scar tissue,” according to Sam’s father Bill. ”What great news. Thanks to all the prayers and faith, things are working out very well again. I called Sam as soon as I hung up and he was very happy. we will be talking with the doctors to discuss how they will remove it.”
A decision should be made in the coming week as to when surgery to remove the growth will be scheduled.

You were saying, bisker?? This whole thing smacks of a shameless PR move by brewster and the biblethumper family. Its a miracle!!! Sam is saved!! Water was turned to wine and tumor to scar tissue!! Hallow-wed-be-thy-name!! Whats next, he nicks himself shaving and daddy takes out another full page ad on caringbridge begging for all of us sinners to hit our knees and pray, pray, pray? Sorry, I have to go puke…
I bet you are a fun person to be around Dr. Loon.
Good God. How can you say something like that without having any personal knowledge of the situation. Speculate all you want but keep such viral comments to yourself.
This Maresh needs to bring it on game day Saturdays. He hasn’t shown me anything yet….all hype. Big Ten wins are all this Maresh will be judged by.
Whyne Rendall posting as himself and Dr. Loon in an attempt to trash Gopher football. Sick.
That’s great news for Sam Maresh and his family. If you can’t read this news for what it is and wish this family all the best, then there’s nothing more that needs to be said. I don’t understand why people like Dr Loon and keepthisbresterhonest feel the need to share their negative comments. Hopefully Sam still gets the opportunity to play for the Gophers, but more importantly to lead a long, healthy life.
Wow, Birdy what a hard butt!!!
Whyne Rendall is sharing nothing more than his sickness.
Hey Dr Loon and Keepthisbresterhonest, (were to attempting to spell Brewster in your screen name?)
Anyway, if you want some scar tissue, I will give you some scar tissue, bring it on.
Good news.
Dr loon-what a pathetic loser. I’m sure you have no friends.
What a great demonstration of amazing faith. In a coming day, those without faith will no be prepared and will be destroyed.
I have no knowledge of the motives or background of the Maresh family, but we do know this young man has had a hear condition to deal with, then a tumor in his leg. I am thrilled to death that the tumor is not malignant and he can move on with his life. This Dr. Loon is a loon. I am no fan of Brewster, but I am happy for Maresh.
Loon. You are a loon with a tic added!
Great news! I’m not a practicing christian but if they want to thank the lord then I say, “Amen”!
In a related story, doctors have examined Wren’s brain, and determined it to be made up of “a dense tissue of no significance.”
IMO, that was not Wren. I have never seen a post where he rips a player.
And I doubt Mr. Loon is the Loon.
Kent. Can’t someone at the Strib just delete that crap?
Bayfield,
You are correct. I have not been posting. These poor individuals who resort to such low-rent tactics as moniker hi-jacking are merely doing what they always resort to.
Thank you for realizing that the kind of things they always resort to here…are things I would not take part in.
The more these immature and totally sociopathic individuals attack me, the more I realize just how desperate the brewster apologists have grown.
It will be very interesting to see how the third year of brewster ball plays out on the Big Ten scoreboards during this 2009 season. I hope for the best, but, can not be very optomistic based upon what I have seen from this brewster. I hope I am wrong, but I don’t see how this can continue beyond the 2010 season. IF I am correct, the fall out from the brewster ball experiments will haunt the U of M Football Program for many seasons past the 2010 season even after this brewserball experiment has been abandoned and another new coach has arrived on the scene. The lack of stability makes it impossible for a program to prosper. Sometimes the attempt to fire and hire and fire and hire produces more harm than good.
But, in the end, the only way to measure the progress…the health of the program is in the number of Big Ten wins vs. the number of Big Ten losses.
I don’t have a good feeling about what the 2007 and 2008 seasons have shown me, Bayfield. I will be in the new stadium watching the results of the Big Ten games with the utmost interest and concern. Honestly, this brewster needs a lot of Big Ten wins, Bayfield. Without them he can not survive past the 2010 season. And then it will be time to start all over…again.
So as to not waste time, here are the Wren Crib-Notes:
1) He wants Big Ten wins
2) He doesn’t like Brewster and he doesn’t want a new coach (my comments: this is wierd)
That’s it. Whining about Big Ten wins and not wanting Brewster or a new coach.
This guy needs another hobby…Seriously!
Ditch this macturi by the end of the 2009 season. This prexy b needs to retire to bring new ledership to the University of Minnesota to walk the U through these coming lean years when the state will not be kicking hundreds of millions of dollars to the U of M for either continuation of academics OR to buy out failed coaches contracts. There will be many problems for the state and we know that the Governor is between a rock and a hard place in terms of revenue generation for the state. prexy b is too long of tooth and is reaching a very advanced age. Just as the state of Minnesota struggles with deficit spending and lack of revenue, so will the U of M. A better money manager than this aged prexy b needs to take over. Get ready for tuition hikes students. (The students may have to choose between boozing and paying tuition…) These will be tough times in the state and at the U. New leadership is needed. No more contract extensions. No more golden parachutes. No more contract buy outs. (Paying people like that dunbar many hundred thousands of dollars for doing nothing is another example of the lack of leadership and fiscal responsibility brought to the table by this prexy b and macturi…not to mention the failed hires of this brewster character.)
Gut the adinistration at the U of M from the top down! The old ways administered by the old prexy just will NOT work during times of depression in the state, national and world economy. There is depression all around and this depression has trickle down to the U, too… We need “new U leadership NOW!”
Try some Zoloft for your depression, Wren!
I seldom visit or post on this blog Wren. Too much crap and very little substance. Many act like they are still in the fourth grade.
Brewster has his work cut out for him. I said that when he was hired as, I know you won’t admit it, the roster was void of quality players and skimpy depth. I’m merely stating the obvious.
Better recruiting is the first step in remedying that situation and I think Brewster has made some inroads there. Still the better players end up somewhere other than the UM which is not surprising. The UM lacks the lustre of an OSU, Michigan, USC, Texas, Notre Dame, etc. We will know in 2-3 years how good Brewsters first two classes will be.
The 09 team will have a lot of experience but still lacks quality players at many positions. The OL has a huge way to go even to be an average CFB OL. I still think they are two years away and will be the main weak area once again.
Mason found ways to score points and had a good number of talented players on the O. Brewster hasn’t figured that one out yet and its back to the drawing board with a new OC. But in his defense, the O talent has not been there the last two years.
My hope is that the D will improve, keep games close going in to the 4th quarter and hold BT teams to 20 ppg or less. A tall order. I expect the O to struggle again in 09.
I agree Wren. Brewster needs to put up 5 BT wins by 2010. The suits made the switch from Mason because they want the Gophers to win big and often. Brewster needs to deliver or its adios after 2010.
Bayfield opines:
….The suits made the switch from Mason because they want the Gophers to win big and often….
———————-
I disagree on that. While winning big and often would have saved him for a year or two, his arrogance and lack of “killer instict” sealed his fate.
I, for one, never want to see us blow up like we did against Texas Tech. That was embarrassing.
S, you would rather have 55 to nothing “no-shows” against stinking iowa? But Mason is not the issue. This brewster’s incopetence IS the issue. The administrative BLUNDERS of letting a contract run down to nothing, then extend it for FIVE years…and then buying it out and having to waste millions and millions of dollars shows how incompetent this prexy b and macturi combo has proved to be. This prexy b should be impeached for fiscal incompetence for THAT horrible move. And what did he get????? He got a 55 to NOTHING effort from this brewster character at the end of his second season at the hands of stinking iowa. Horrible use of funds…and…you people have NO pride.
Let’s count the Mason throw-away games:
1) Michigan
2) Northwestern
3) Texas Tech
These were all games in hand and we blew up. It was a lack of killer instict. Plus Mason’s addressing the media, goal-line club, and prep coaches made him a good fire for the university.
gh/gi
The suits made the switch to someone other than Mason. Ten years of mediocrity was no longer the standard. I was just fine with that. Actually I was one who did not want Mason renewed.
This is all past history. Like Wren preaches; Big Ten wins is what counts and Brewster has a a lot of roadblocks to get through to get us there.
Unlike Wren, its to early to label Brewster as incompetent. He may be but I will reserve judgement for two more years.
There are pessimistic comments and then there are dumb comments. “He [Maresh] hasn’t shown me anything yet”. Really? I didn’t realize the kid could show you anything given he DIDN’T PLAY last year.
Bayfield: This brewsterball will have to produce at least 9 Big Ten wins out of the next 16 Big Ten games JUST to equal the 12 Big Ten games the failed, hated and fired Masonball produced in his first four seasons. We both know that this brewster character is not capable of winning 9 out of the next 16 Big Ten games based upon what he has shown. I have no basis by which to judge this brewster’s recruiting classes other than to count the number of Big Ten wins vs. the number of Big Ten losses.
Yes, this brewster will get four seasons…but…by that point in time it i entirely possible that he will have to be replaced. We will have sufferfed through four miserable seasons. IF this prexy b makes it for two more seasons, he will be almost 69 years old. He doesnt hve his eye toward the future…he has his back against the wall just trying to survive the rigors of his administrative position in surviving just for the present moment. This macturi can NOT be allowed to mess up another football coaching move…non-move…or extension followed by a buy out. Other than moving into the new stdium, that prexy b, that macturi and that extnded, bought out, incredibly “offensive-minded”, naming-rights producing and legislative lobbying Mason got us, the current football program under this brewster appears to be crumbling as the season of THE NEW STADIUM is approaching us. There are SO many new coaches in the Bierman Complex in the Football offices that the players need programs with pictures of the new coache’s faces just to know who they are supposed to report to.
And IF this brewster gets 9 Big Ten wins in the 2009 and 2010 seasons, he will ONLY be averaging 3 Big Ten wins a season for FOUR seasons. THAT adds up to a disaster. That is NOT good enough…or…is it???? What would that say about this brfewster’s recruiting????? What would that say about his ability as a coach????? This brewster is NOT a coach. He is a general manager/recruiter wanna be. This just doesn’t get it done.
“I, for one, never want to see us blow up like we did against Texas Tech. That was embarrassing.”
===================================
You just want to continue seeing those 55-0 beatdowns from lowly Iowa?!
Did the good people of Minnesota really pay more than 200 million dollars to get rid of the previous coach and build the new stadium so they could get a worse Big Ten football program? Because they “thought” the previous coach was arrogant? An arrogant football coach?
So now we are back to those good old days of firing our coach every four or five years if he does not at least match the record of the arrogant coach?
How about hiring a coach who has proven he knows how to coach at the Big Ten level without cheating and stop worrying about whether he has a pimple on his ass or does not like dogs?
This notion we are better off because we no longer lose close games is, IMHO, stupid as hell. In order to lose the close ones we are going to have to play the close ones. I vote for having a chance.
This has been a five year, dumb ass venture into wrecking what we had so the ‘man/boy’ fans can not have their ‘feelings’ hurt from time to time as we try to improve the program from the bottom three in the Big Ten up into one of the top five or six.
It is entirely probable that this brewster will average under 3 Big Ten wins per season. Anything under three, of course rounds down to two. That would be pathetic. That, of course, is what you brewster apologists deserve. You can have it. The U should extend this brewster for twenty five years at half his current salary…and…if brewster has a brain he should offer to work for even less than that if he can get a 25 year guaranteed contract. You brewster apologists deserve a quarter of a century of brewsterball! Obviously the U of M will not be able to afford anything better now.
Hang on to your hats students: tuition under this prexy b is headed higher. He has already run tuition up a lot…and you probably haven’t seen anything yet. Those students who love to binge and barf won’t be able to binge drink the way they currently do. Their moms and dads can start sending them to detox centers rather than to football games at the U. No more entitlements boys and girls. Cut the state aid for the University. That will have to be done because the state is going broke. Just watch our politicians work now!
At least the vikings will have to start considering themselves lucky to have a dome. Of course, maybe California can get a bail out from the Feds and spend the money building wilf a home in California. THAT would do more to help brewsterball than anything this brewster chaacter will ever do.
Of course, I am making light of the current situation. Why not? It really is kind of a joke…wink…wink…wink ; 0 )
I don’t know what the heck you people who apologize for this brewster/macturi/prexy b. three-headed monster have to fear from a few people telling you that the U of M screwed up big time with their football coaching and coaches contract moves since the 2005 season. There is NOTHING that the U of M can do to change anything right now. The U of M has NO MORE money to extend contracts…NO MORE money to buy out contracts…NO MORE money to pay of high priced ineffective offensive and/or defensive coordinators…have they even been able to finish raising the money for the new stadium?????
Big Ten wins coupled with ooc wins and even minor bowl wins could save the administration/gm/recruiter 3-headed monster more commonly referred to as brewsterball/macturiball/prexy b-ball.
I want to see how well the “boosters” come through with their pledges and contribution money from the local business leaders pours into the stadium campaign. I would like to see some figures relating to that. Perhaps the ponzi schemes that have helped hatter Wal Street have moved down to Main Street around the Bierman Complex. I hope not, but, the times have changed.
Based upon the economy, I fear that the “honeymoon” period for the new stadium will be very short-lived for brewsterball unless there are a LOT of Big Ten wins and very nice bowl appearances within the first couple of years of play in TCF BANK STADIUM. And, with all the problems within the banking systems and within the financial community, one will have to hope that the naming rights deal can survive to maturity. Who knows what will happen with Citi…BOA…Wells…USB…TCB, et al?????
The future has seldom been more clouded for that banking sector…at least during the past 79 years or so…
But, all is well with brewsterball…this brewster is such a “hot-shot” recruiter according to the phantom four star rated high school recruiting ranking gurus and their subscription driven publications.
How DARE anyone ask how many Big Ten games this brewster has won…will win…????? WHAT does Big Ten wins have to do with fantasy four star recruiting rankings any way???? ; 0 )
It’s amazing that the Loon and Wren both have the “ability” to look into the future and emphatically declare Brewsterball a failure.
And in the next sentence lament the fact that we have “wrecked what we had”.
Yep, lets fire Brewster now Loon and see how many guys that know how to coach at the Big Ten level take the time and effort to mail in their resume.
Brilliant!!
This wrenbawlblather and his illegal border-hopping meth runner buffloonatic need to get something straight. Nobody wins in the Big Ten without quality football players.
For some, the bigtime talent just shows up and they are proclaimed brilliant coaches for assigning elite athletes to a position. For other programs, it takes serious recruiting skill and effort.
Gopher football is making progress right now with two good recruiting classes. Continued and consistent recruiting of very skilled athletes will determine the success of the program.
In the meantime this outlaw wrenbawlbabbler of a Gopher hater and his two dozen alias pornographers will not be allowed to tear down our football team.
I am happy to see Sam will be okay with his leg issue. You can never to to careful now of days with tissue growths in your body. The U did the right thing by getting him to the doctors and getting it checked out. I know there are laws in place to protect our medical records and maybe this is why those laws are in place. It would probably be best if we did not know everything about our Gophers players medical history. I am happy for Sam and my families prayers will stay with him on his journey back to football.
d_a_c: the three-headed monstorsity called brewster/macturi/prexy b have been doing the tearing down of Gopher Football. You are the pornographic character…just check out the monster that you took your moniker from. Your words always describe exactly WHO you are…WHAT you are and HOW you are. I support Gopher football and I have for over half a century. I’ll be around and I will continue to describe what I see happening with Gopher Football. ONLY Big Ten wins could save that sorry brewster’s butt.
Bayfield: what we had was the chance to parley this new stadium into something that could have helped this program. It certainly would have helped to have had a competetive Big Ten Program in place at the time we moved into the new stadium. We do NOT have that.
You keep wanting this to be about Mason. He was fired. He hasn’t been around in a hell of a long time. He took his buy-out money and has moved on with his life. It’s good he is gone. That’s all just fine. However, this brewster character is NOT good. The way the program is administered is NOT good. The direction of the program is NOT headed in the right direction. Basically the potential boost from the new stadium is being wasted and lost. That really is a tragedy for the near term future of Golden Gopher Football. I don’t know how long I’ll be around…do you know how long you will? I hope we are all around for a long time and can see many successful seasons. I certainly have no confidence in the ability of the leadership over there at the U for the next couple of years.
Only the Wren/Loon/Recruiting/Bud/Waterboy/Hireacoach character could hijack a thread about a kids life. Congrats!
[…] New Mexico. … Percy Harvin is going to be a wide receiver in the NFL, as if he ever wasn’t. … Good medical news for a change for Minnesota’s Sam Maresh. … Washington’s working on some new uniforms. … Pure […]

Welcome to the world of slime, sleaze, pornography, and perversion … the world of Whyne Renbawlbabbles.
You know I am not doing cartwheels with our 07 & 08 records. But I don’t think any coach would have done a whole lot better than Brewster with the lack of quality players and little or no depth. Plus I don’t recall which Big Ten ready coaches were beating down Maturi’s door in Jan of 08.
Funny how the new guy gets us to a minor bowl game in year two but its not good enough even though that was the standard around here for a decade. And Mason pi$$ed away his first two years as well. But that was OK in your world.
We both want a winner here. That’s why I wanted to dump Mason when he was renewed. It was obvious to me the guy would never get us to the top, even with guys like MB3, TT, Utecht, Setterstrom, Payne, LM, Spaeth, Esslingler, etc at his disposal.
How many times do I have to say that any new coach needs at least four years? And if he gets canned before he gets a chance, who in their right mind will take over?
Brewster has been far from perfect but he IS (with Wrenlike added emphasis) the coach and deserves our support. Seems to me you used to preach that on the Hole.
dr lunacy,
Thanks for being the first to post on this story. You have just shown everyone what a tasteless malignant piece of crap you are!! Does it really make you feel better about your pathetic life to try and rip on a kid who has more integrity and moral fiber than you could possibly imagine?
The program starts all over again this fall. New coaches, new offense, new defense, new play books, new running attack, new blocking, etc. Now we have a more experienced head coach who has figured out how to lose 13 of 16 Big Ten games played.
Gosh, I think I should be more impressed with our chances this fall, but part of me just does not think that any of our Big Ten rivals are circling our game with them as one of the tough games on their schedule. Silly them.
He who shall not be named took over a program that had averaged one (1?) Big Ten win per season over the previous three years and turned it into a five game winning Big Ten team in their third year. We fired him even though he did not have TCF. Why should we expect less from the guy who was said to be better and who has TCF?
I will be posting that comparison once a week or so once the fall begins. There is no reason to expect less from a better coach with a much better stadium who took over a program that had averaged 3.334 per year in the three years before this “better” coach took over.
Such are the realities of being a Gopher fan in this new age of big talking fans and administrators. Some of the fans will hold you to all your big talk and big promises.
44 posts on this thread as of 3:54pm, and only 1, by Bayfield Gopher, has any
real analysis of the Gopher FB team’s strengths and weaknesses. Wren - I challenge you - if you have been following college FB for 50 years - give us something new. A new thought - A new analysis - A new perspective on what it will take for the Gopher FB team to success. I challenge you - give us one post with No Macturi, No Gm/Recruiter, No long-in-the-tooth prexy B. Give us something new. Tells us what you think about the offensive line, the defensive backfield, the special teams. Demonstrate some actual knowledge of football strategy. It takes Zero intelligence to post the same comments over and over again. Again, I challenge you - give us something new, or shut the f*** up.
Something new? How about: the coach earns support by winning Big Ten football games with the players he has, not with the ones he will have in four more years? If, on the other hand, he continues to lose Big Ten football games, his support will melt away like fat in a frying pan.
(Kind of a fresh look at a classic reality if I do say so myself. Nice mix of various plays on words.)
Granted, not in the sense of the word “new” as you meant as you ignored the icebergs as you and Brewster captained the Titanic across the Atlantic at full speed, but some of us are just not very good at ignoring icebergs.
Loonie, 1-11, 7-6, only 2 yrs and looks like improvement. Are you guys blind. give the guy 4 yrs. then gripe all you want, he is building the right way.
Onery, you hit the nail or idiot on the head, but it will make no difference, once a scratched record always a scratched record.
Let’s try this again. In my opinion, one of the Gophs’ biggest weaknesses last season was the inability to convert on short-yardage situations - 3rd & 1, 4th & 1. If they can improve the line play and running game just a little, they should be able to sustain drives, score more points, and keep the defense off the field longer. For the benefit of Wren, that was an analysis based on actual observation of last year’s games. See, I can post something different - I may not be a member of Mensa, but I can formulate a new thought or idea every now and then.
And by the way, I have never said I thought Brewster was a great coach. I honestly don’t know if he is or he isn’t. But, I will make that judgement after watching the games. Oh, by the way, I was not on the Titanic - but I wouldn’t have minded a little of the action Leo got with Kate Winslet.
Shorty … Leo is an actor, just like the hate dispenser and pornographer Whyne Renbawlbabbles with his 12 aliases on this board.
Leo recites lines. So does Renbawlbabbles. It’s an act to spread hatred and to try to destroy interest in Gopher football.
There are some differences, however. Leo, to my knowledge, is not a criminal meth dealer.
short onery norwegian,
I think you will definitely see an improvement in the short yardage game. Coach Davis has a very good track record of developing O-linemen. In addition to that we will have Carufel and Wills, who both have size and experience. Also the RB situation should have much more depth with Bennett and Whaley healthy. I think Lipscomb would be able to step in right away also. It will be interesting to watch Davis & Fisch work together to develop the offense. In reading an interview done with Davis, it sounds like they have very similar approaches to game planning.
I found it interesting that Davis switched Wynn from RT, where he was a starter, to LG and brought in Stommes at RT in the bowl game. Stommes was a surprise as his PT to that point was minimal. We actually showed a bit of running game the first 1/3 of the KU game then we got behind. It was disappointing to see us fail to score in the first and goal situation. A false start by Tavale set the tempo but still we couldn’t punch it in from the 1.
I think our weakness in 09 will be the tackle spot. Meinke needs to add 20lbs as he was often overmatched at LT. Willis may take over the RT spot but, IMO, he needs to loose 40 pounds which will help his mobility. If Stommes is to be effective he needs to put on 20 as well. Alford needs to stay healthy but I don’t think he is the answer at LT.
Tavale, Orton, Carufel, Davis, Burris, Tow-Arnett, Alford, Ruckdaschel, Bunders all have game experience but none of them have been able to step up and take over. Injuries were part of the problem too. As much as most of the guys need to fill out, I would like to see Tavale drop about 15. Same with Alford. Brewster does not like portly OL.
So who will make adequate offseason progress and be an improved player this Fall? My guess is Wynn & Carufel are probably the best bet of the bunch to start.
I wish I could be at the Spring game and watch the OL but that is not possible this year.
shortuglynorwegian: I think you are too challenged and obviously have been told to “shut the…f….up so many times that is the bulk of your substance. You are not anyone that I would ever care to have a discussion with. You are one of the sociopathic brewster apologists. I have no time for you and your types.
I will continue to put a message in my tag lines and will continue to change my taglines because you sociopats and misanthrops such as d_a_c are constantly hijacking monikers and saying the outrageous and horrible things that you brewster apologists resort to saying. I will continue to pound home the Big Ten win thing. THAT is essential. The ONLY things that this brewster will be held accountable for will be to recruit STUDENT athletes that are capable of graduating and DO graduate, running a completely clean and honest program AND finally WINNING a LOT of Big Ten football games. His record of Big Ten wins vs Big Ten losses is either going to save him or can him. IF he can not win enough Big Ten football games it will damn him and he will be canned at the endo of the 2010 season. Thi b.s. about recruiting means nothing…if his recruits don’t hurry up and win a hell of a lot of Big Ten football games.
So you brewster apologists can ram, cram and jam your feeble brewster excuses and lines of b.s. that are so transparent it is pathetic.
And I will continue to focus on the number of Big Ten football wins short, ugly norwegian.
With too few Big Ten wins brewster is finished and you pathetic brewster apologists are sliced/diced and french fried. Just as this brewster will be history without enough Big Ten wins, your pathetic excuses for him are completely worthless and will continue to be laughed at by everyone who watches Big Ten Football.
EVER WONDER WHY THAT CROWD OVER AT GOPHERHOLE.COM WANTS TO KEEP THE MOST RECENT LAWLESSNESS BY GOPHER FOOTBALL PLAYERS UNDER WRAPS? SEEMS TO ME THE TRUTH WAS THE BEST WAY TO GO IN ALL OF THE OTHER EPISODES UNDER THE BREWSTER REGIME!
I’m guessing the crowd at GH just doesn’t want dipsticks like anyone who posts in all CAPS (i.e. AR). Some of us who are actually fans, aren’t trying to conjure up negativity on the Gopher program. Some of us are actually trying to have analyitical discussions about the positive direction this program is heading.
AR, you are a douche.

Short yardage was a huge issue and one of the main reasons Davis was brought aboard. The freshmen clearly were not ready for Big Ten football. Carufel needs to get healthy as I think we’re going to need him to start next year. Wills is built like a guard, so we’re still looking for a tackle or two. Tackle and kicker are my biggest worries.

—————-
The first offensive play of the bowl is a big reason why we were able to run early imo. We need more big plays, hopefully Carpenter will turn out to be the real deal. Overall I believe we averaged about 2.1 a rush versus Kansas.
Seems to me, most of out oline is better suited as guards. I absolutely agree that the tackle spot is our biggest worry for 09.
I think Wynn, Davis, and Orton have some potential. I thought Alford and Burris were disappointing last year. I think these guys will all be better, but this line still will be the team’s weakness.

44 posts on this thread as of 3:54pm, and only 1, by Bayfield Gopher, has any
real analysis of the Gopher FB team’s strengths and weaknesses.
——————–
While this is completely true, the thread was about Sam Maresh and not about the strengths and weaknesses of the team. As far as the Wren/Loon/Waterboy/Recruiting/Bud/Andy Rooney/Hireacoach character goes, its the same crap different day.
So what more needs to be said about the Maresh non situation? It would seem to me that way too much has been printed and said so far. A classic case of less is more. No need derek to use this non story as another of your censoring efforts.

Are there two guys named Wills on this team? The one I have been reading about is 6′7, 350. If that is not a tackle what is?

Some of us are actually trying to have analyitical discussions about the positive direction this program is heading.
============================
You mean like beating Montana State & Florida Atlantic?
Wills is listed at 6-7 375lb on http://www.gophersports.com recruiting/video article.
I like the 6-7 part but I hope he can get down to 330. Looks like he has a rather large front porch.
I agree about Alford and Burris. Alford had a bad ankle and I think Burris had a knee that held them both back.
Health issues are holding Maresh back and it looks like another surgery that will keep him off the practice field.
And Loon-a-tic calls this a non situation, non story! Another brilliant moment from the Canuck import.
Ooops, I almost forgot. Loon doesn’t want any of Brewsters recruits to succeed.
Kent! Please clean out the garbage from this site. Way too much time is spent between a few of the posters bickering back and forth and hearing the same old crap. Why not give some of the excessive, non sports posters one post a week. This is supposed to be about the Gophers team, it’s recruits, and prospects for the season. PLEASE control the junk.
EVER WONDER WHY BAYFIELD AND THE REST OF THE KISSING COACH WONDERFUL’S ASS CLUB BELIEVE THE GOLDER GOPHER FOOTBALL TEAM IS THE ONLY COLLEGE FOOTBALL PROGRAM IN AMERICA TO EXPERIENCE INJURIES & ILLNESS?
My wife hasn’t implemented the spread offense in months.
Bayfield says,

Burris’ bad knee held them both back? Wow, must have been a worse injury than we knew.
(Sorry, Bay … couldn’t resist. We all get a little deranged here from reading the illiterate hate-mongering of illegals and meth dealers.)
My guess would be that the Maresh family will be a tad reluctant in the future to go public with medical information until they actually have a diagnosis that would suggest a problem.
I look forward to seeing Sam play football. Overall, he has been a good example of why an adult should not get too excited about recruiting.
dac.
Please don’t show this to my 6th grade teacher! She would consider herself a failure!
Loon
Sam will be having surgery to remove the scar tissue mass. You don’t consider that a problem? I happen to get excited about every HS student who elects to become a Gopher. And there are many good reasons for that.
Maybe I need to send back my SS checks. Naw!
Way too early to judge anything Brewster has accomplished as far as wins and losses. At least one more season is needed and then you have to throw out the first year and focus on the current situation and the potential for the future.
Sign this brewster up for twenty five more years right now then you brewser apologists. After the first five years, you have to throw out the next 8 years and then it will take at least a dozen or so to get a really good read on how this fantasy star recruiting deal is going. Yes, you people do deserve brewsterball until it makes you barf and then you need a heck of a lot more.
I hope you people get this brewster rammed, crammed and jammed down your throats.
As for me, I have seen more than enough to know that this brewster is underprepared, overmatched and should be out the doorat the end of the 2010 season. (Should never have been here would have been the best situation…and not because he replaced that failed and fired and big-time-big-buck bought out Mason, but just because this brewster is NOT a worthy football COACH. He is a gm/recruiting/used car salesman wanna be who NEVER stood a chance.
Get rid of macturi and this prexy b. needs to retire at the end of the 2009 season. New leaderhip is needed in the WORST way at the U of M…in the sports departments, in the academic departments and on EVERY administrative level.
This prexy b is tied to so MANY former prexys and administrations and the incestual, nepotistic reign of administration at the U needs to be replaced with new administrative blood and new administrative ideas.
There: have fun brewster apologists!

I don’t think it helps young men for the fans to get too ’soap opera’ about their lives too much. It is perfectly normal in life for all of us to have various serious issues we need to deal with without believing that the rest of world really cares about us very much. Every day we see young people who are led to believe that they are ’super stars’ and then go on to make silly choices based on their ’special’ status.
It is normal in life to have bad stuff happen.
Really, truly, fire the man who brought in Tubby Smith. Get rid of all those administrators who brought football back to campus. There is a waiting list for season tickets even during this economy. This RENEGADE character just does not get it.
In case someone forgot to tell you Loon, this is the “information age” and the “did you notice what I did yesterday” age. Blah, blah, blah and then some more blah, blah, blah. And the media keeps it rolling. Issues involving athletes become “news” very quickly. Athletes will continue to be put on pedistals(sp) and in the limelight.
Did you watch the OSU/Kansas game the other night? The camera was on the OSU star on the bench with a concussion (Griffin) about as much as it showed the game. Glad he doesn’t have a habit of picking his nose!
Its out there no matter what you think. And lot of the athletes love it.

Ha. It depends on if you think Alford or Carufel is going to play tackle.
As Bayfield said, Wills is alot closer to 380 and I don’t trust he has the footspeed to protect the edge. We shall see.

I believe it, Wren has went on a few tirades over the Shaw firing in the past. This would explain it.

I thought caringbridge.org was for people who are really ill, not some college football player with a zit on his leg who is too dumb to have it fixed because he wants to play spring fooooooooooobawww. Give it up papa bill, you have had your 15 seconds! Start your own blog and leave caringbridge for stories like the deputy who was shot in the head last week. Thats what it for. He is a true hero!
As far as Sam Maresh is concerned, I never had a chance to see him play FB in high school, but I did watch him compete at the State Wrestling tournment last year. Based on that observation, he seems to have all the physical tools to play LB in D-1 - size, strength, and maybe most importantly, good balance and quick feet. Plus, he has a fairly lean frame, and should be able to put on some weight. I could see him as a hybrid LB/DE type of player if needed.
Hope to see him on the field this fall.
there you go gang - a 100% positive comment.
A renbawlbabbles buffloonatic mule says of Sam Maresh,
“Every day we see young people who are led to believe that they are ’super stars’ and then go on to make silly choices based on their ’special’ status.”
________________
Yes, buffloonatic, hopefully Sam can learn some lessons about his silly choices to have heart surgery and a tumor on his leg. Very silly, those choices.
Moron.
Pssst, dac, he doesn’t have a tumor on his leg. It’s a scar.
Psst, Loon it’s probably a tumor:
poke, you’re going to confuse loonatic with all those fancy shmansy facts. Obviously he knows more than the medical personnel treating the case.
If didn’t have cancer, but a tumor’s one of those things I wouldn’t want to have reguardless, it sounds like Sam’s going to be alright and the way I see it it was a scary situation that turned out okay for the Maresh family and I don’t see why people can’t take that for what it is and have to trash a 20 yr old because it worked for him
*It, not if
I am delighted Sam is fine, as I posted above. Good. Excellent.
Having said that now several times, I will turn that excellent page and move on to another page.
Gosh, I wish we had a football program that would win some football games against other BCS team. Additionally, any word on Joel Maturi moving on?
Yes, back to talking about the need to win Big Ten football games, and the need to replace macturi as the ad at the end of the 2009 seasons. There will be a choice that will have to be made about this brewster character and the 2010 season will most likely be the last season for this brewster character if he hasn’t found a way to win a lot of Big Ten games in 2009 and 2010. We need a Big Ten football dude or dudette in charge of the athletic department to either sign this brewster character to another five year extension IF he wins at least 11 or 12 Big Ten games total in the 2009 plus 2010 seasons. If he comes in at 9 or less Big Ten wins in the 2009 plus 2010 seasons, we will know that his remaining season will be bought out and there will be a new football coach in place for the 2011 season.
The focus will need to be about achieving Big Ten wins come hell or high water for this brewster character during what could most certainly be his final two years at Minnesota in 2009 and 2010.I don’t care one way or the other which way it will go down. The ONLY thing I care about will be the number of Big Ten wins vs the number of Big Ten losses, the graduation of MORE and MORE Gopher Football players AND the running of a completely clean and honest football program. Nothing else matters. WIN a dozen 10 or 11 Big Ten football games during the 2009 and 2010 seasons and all will be well with the world of this brewster character as the gm/recruiter for the Unviersity of Minnesota Football Program.
