2010 recruiting class now at three
Posted on March 5th, 2009 – 10:06 AMBy Kent Youngblood
Greetings.
I’m in Indianapolis covering the Big Ten women’s basketball tournament. But here’s just a quick update. Gopherillustrated.com — the local rivals.com folks — reported Irondale offensive tackle Jimmy Gjere has committed to the Gophers, chosing Minnesota over Ohio State, Wisconsin and Iowa.
That brings the 2010 class to three…..
That’s about all. Have a good day.

Awesome!! Thanks for the update Kent. Way to go Coach Brew & company!!
Go gophs!!
Yes, this is awesome news for real Gopher fans. But it is horrible news for Wren, Bud, Buffloonatic, and the 12 other names posting from Wrenbawls computer.
Now watch one of Whynedawl’s aliases tell us that Gjere had no other opportunities (well except Ohio State, Whisky, and the Iowa State Penitentiary).
Big time commitment. He’ll be ranked #2 or #3 in the state behind Seantrel Henderson and with Beau Allen and likely 4-stars. Getting guys like Gjere to commit early is a big accomplishment for the Gophers. If we can keep these kids at home we’ll be a much better team.
Agreed grunkiejr,
Now if we can get Seantrell & Beau as well, that would be huge for the program. Keeping the top in-state recruits is a priority. Hopefully the dream of playng in the new stadium in front of their home state crowds motivates these young men as much as it would Gopher fans.

Get real before you whiz in your pants, golferlosers. This big, dumb, slow spud from up north wasn’t going anywhere other than homosoder from the git-go! 4 stars? How is the competition up there in Iwrendale? WAFing Joke…. See you losers in Octber..don’t forget how to choke like you did in Madtown! hehe!
For the record, Irondale HS is in New Brighton (which is essentially a St. Paul suburb).
As a matter of fact my old HS was in the same conference as Irondale (North Suburban). Some of you may remember a HS classmate of mine from his Gopher days:

The ignorant thug Bielema has one recruit listed so far for 2010. His sister, listed as a nose tackle.
calvin badger=bucky humper
Now get off your sister!!
Brewster continues to reel them in ruffling the feathers of the Pigeon faithful and those who follow Becky. We all know that Calvin and others posting here really are mad at Brewster because they can’t come in and steal players any longer.
Iowa- Where 30 players are arrested in two years.
Wisconsin- Where youth do the deed with dead deer or digging up dead girls. What a classy state this is.

ESPN had a poll alittle while back asking each state if they were happy with their schools recruiting. Wisconsin was the only one with over 50% saying no they were not happy. Even a few paint thinner’s realize Big Enema is a Dbag. Hoopefully he’ll be around long enough to run that program into the ground. Alverez hired him, Alverez won’t fire him because Barry has never admitted to making a mistake and he won’t now.
The “ignorant thug Bielema” is undefeated against you losers ins’t he?
Damn - Sid Hartman is psychic (sp). He had the kid committing to the Gophers in his column a few weeks ago. I wonder if Sid has any stock tips…..
seriously, by all acconts, Gjere is supposed to be a solid athlete in hockey and football. Hope he’s got that hockey-player mentality - a little bit of a edge wouldn’t hurt on the line.

I didn’t play football at the U during Big Enema’s tenure. SO I guess he’s 0-0 against me.

Norwegian—are you kidding me?? The guy plays hockey?? If that is the case, we got ourselves an athlete. I see him listed at 6′7″ and 270. I’m telling you, this coaching staff is relentless. You have to be impressed with what is going on at the moment. I see both the OC and DC being perfectly content to be here for a length of time that will gives us that much-needed stability. The trendline continues to go in the right direction.
Tex …. Gjere is a blue chip. Brewster did a great job getting him to commit early before USCs, Alabamas, LSUs etc of the college football world started beating down his door.
He already apparently had offers from Ohio State.
The Star Tribune did an article with a video clip of Jimmy Gjere playing hockey. It has a great shot of Gjere checking some poor kid over the boards.

I just find it funny that a troll like Calvin Badger would find the story important enough to come here to read it and then would try to rip on the player as if he had no talent. Meanwhile his Badgers have given him an offer. So he has to be ripping on his own team for recruiting such a poor athlete while he is also insulting them worse because he couldn’t even get him.
On a sidenote, as Calvin rips on Minnesota’s playes he should stop and realize that there are 4 players from Minnesota with Wisconsin offers (a fifth coming this weekend) and there is only one player from Wisconsin that holds an offer from the Badgers. That Wisconsin player just happens to have verbally committed to Minnesota back in January.
Great job BB. Keep up the good work.
Yes, brewster apologists, attack the recruiting tactics of wisky and iowa…and ignore this brewster’s 0-4 Big Ten record against the idiots who coach at wisky and iowa. What the heck does that make this brewster. And that 55-0 loss to that ferentz character was especlly devistating.
You people who apologize for this brewster’s lack of Big Ten wins all of the time are making those jerks from iowa and wisky look good compared to this brewster on Game Day Saturdays.
It is ALL about Big Ten wins and Big Ten losses. Recruiting crap is a circus side show that you brewster apologists attempt to hide behind. SHOW me RESULTS. Don’t try to push you b.s. recruiter ranking junk. Show me Big Ten wins…until then you are making sorry apologies for this brewster’s MANY Big Ten losses. I’m a Golden Gopher Football fan and I want Big Ten wins. Your excuses are boring and are wearing out. Big Ten wins during the 2009 and 2010 seasons are the ONLY thing that can save this brewster can achieve that might save this brewster’s Big Ten gm/recruiting gig.
High School fantasy football recruit rankings is just another form of fantasy football….some x-box gaming thing…some journey into lala-land. Actual results of actual Big Ten Football Games are the only things that matter in honest to goodness, REAL Big Ten Football STANDINGS. Wins vs. losses. Be real, people. Show me the Big Ten wins!
****CORRECTION****Yes, brewster apologists, attack the recruiting tactics of wisky and iowa…and ignore this brewster’s 0-4 Big Ten record against the LIGHT WEIGHTS who coach at wisky and iowa. What the heck does that make this brewster? And that 55-0 loss to that ferentz character was especlly devistating and instructive in evaluating the job this brewster is doing at Minnesota.

wren,
You’re such a tool. Keep clinging to the past so you can revel in your demented desire for this program to fail. Why don’t you go snuggle up with calvin badger (bucky humper)? I’m sure you two would hit it off tremendously. The rest of us who are real fans, will continue to support “our” team and applaud what the coaches and players are accomplishing.
Go Gophs!!
This renbawl and that whynedawl and those buffloonatics and the 12 calvin badger types posting from wren’s computer like to pretend recruiting good athletes has nothing to do with building a winning program.
This renbawl moron and that whynedawl imbecile pretend Ohio State wins because Tressel is a great coach.
This renbawl moron and that whynedawl idiot and the 12 Bucky Badger types posting from Wren’s computers are laughable fools.
Hey there brewster apologist, d_a_c-off: Bring home the Big Ten wins and I’ll be a believer. Until then, your talk about recruits that will help in 3 or 4 years will be entirely too late to help this brewster.
Ditch this maturi, the sooner the better.
I bleed Maroon and Gold. However, I don’t buy the hype of this fantasy recruiting business and fledgling industry. Not only do I not ‘buy it’, but I don’t subscribe to it or purchase it. I buy season tickets. Our tickets have been in the family for many decades. I’ve heard all about how great the recruits are every year that Sid Hartman has been around and that is a very long time. Snce 1967, it really hasn’t panned out too well.
But, Minnesota is a tough plce to recruit to and to win at. Especially since the damn vikings and even twins came around in the very early 1960’s.
You people…you brewster butt-kissers, back-side smoochers and apologists can try to insult me all you wish. But, I have been watching Golden Gopher Football since before most of your parents were een around…if you have anyone who will admit to being your prents. (some of you people are pretty low-rent…)
Show me Big Ten wins. Then we’ll talk. Ditch maturi…the sooner the better! ; - )

This WhynebawlbabyLoser … If Mason had recruited some athletes three or four years ago they would in the the here and now right now, playing and winning.
You need to wake up, dummy.

Funny how those upclassmen Iowa and Wisconsin had on the field last year were much more highly rated than the U upperclassmen. Maybe you are the one hiding behind the 2007 season.
Does anyone else solely come here to trash this mental midget know as “wren”?
wren is the “Doubting Thomas” of Gopher football.
“Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter The Realm Of The Renegade”.
Funny how he/she/it claims to bleed maroon & gold but can do nothing but criticize anything Gopher related. Again, what a tool.
You brewster apologizers and apologizerettes have only this macturi to blame for all of this brewster’s troubles. This macturi and prexy b EXTENDED Mason only after letting his contract run completely down. Any recruiting whining you want to do about Mason goes squarely on macturi and that prexy b. Not only did they screw up recruiting by running their coach’s contract down to nothing…but…when those two incompetent clowns macturi and prexy b caved in like the wimps they are…they also put Mason and his agent squarely in the driver’s seat when they came to Mason begging him to stay on. Mason and his agent took them to the cleaners and demanded a LONG-TERM extension…knowing that the incredibly incompetent macturi and prexy b needed him to get the stadium. The deal ended up costing the fiscally challenged prexy b and macturi millions and millions of dollars that prexy b had to borrow from the General Fund of the college to buy out Mason’s contract when they said they were firing him. What a joke…they were paying him off. They got their stadium, but they sold their souls in that deal. It smells like some funny stuff that was a part of that deal pulled off by the administrators b and macturi.
You brewster butt kissers and butt kisserettes have only macturi and prexy b to blame if you want to try to blame someone for this brewster’s monumental failures in 2007 and 2008. 55 to stinking NOTHING?????????? How pathetic. How could this brewster ever dare show his face any where after that display of incompetence on his part?????
So, d_a_c-off, there you have it. This macturi had doomed this brewster even before he hired the totally lacking in experience gm/recruiter wannabe. This prexy b and macturi stuck it to Minnesota long-time Golden Gopher Football Fans big time with the hire they made…AND the money they totally wasted…AND then they have the gall to ask people to contribute to scholarship funds not only for the athletc department but also for the general student population. PAY BACK those millions and millions of dollars you borrowed from the General Fund of the University to pay off the buy out NOW, “mr. president…”
I don’t give a rat’s tail who macturi fires…I just don’t want him to EVER hire again!
Yes, bisker, basker, biffer, basher: Go “Biblical” in your references to me. Just keep coming back, commenting and reading all that I have to say. It’s all about creating a response if you want to affect change. I had to harp on and on about the need for this brewster to dump that dunbar and that darn spreadsy-wedsy-so-called offense of his that killed the chances of winning a number of games during the past two season. Most likely, since it took SO long for this brewster to heed my good counsel to him about ditching dunbar, it was too little too late for him. He will have the 2009 and 2010 seasons to win at LEAST ten Big Ten Football Games. We will see what we will see. I want Big Ten wins…I don’t care if they come from this brewster character or if they finally start coming from the next coach. Ditch maturi now!
There was a town out in the hinterlands with no airport but one good airplane. Since there was no runway and no lights the plane had not taken off in several years.
The town elders gathered to discuss hiring a pilot to fly the plane and carry passengers into the city and back.
Some of the wiser elders said, “We need to hire more than a pilot. We need someone who can also find a way to build the runway and lights. Even with the best pilot in the land, this terrain is too bumpy for him to ever lift off.”
But This Wrenbawl Whynebaby screamed, “NO, NO, NO, NO … I don’t want to hear about fantasy construction projects or new runways. The only thing that counts is flying. Can he fly right now or not?”
The sensible townspeople tried to calm the babbling mentally ill drug-addled low rent third grader who was wetting his pants while blabbering nonsense. They did not succeed.
All the while the new pilot/construction manager worked diligently to put in place the infrastructure required to fly high, the babbling wrenbawl moron continued to wet his pants and slobber.

If the shoe fits…
turn around, bend over, and kick your dumb arse outta here!!
55 to ZILCH: a Big Ten loss to top the history of Big Ten losses this program has EVER experienced. THAT is what this brewster means to University of Minnesota Football…that was his most recent contribution to his Big Ten resume was.
The brewster apologists realize that there is so little to work with for hem that they attempt to make a villian of a long-time fan who calls for more Big Ten wins than the 1.5 Big Ten wins per season this brewster has averaged to date. The brewster apologists are afraid of what lies in the near term future. What will 2009 bring? How many Big Ten wins will this brewster achieve in 2009? This is the ultimate question. We must patiently wait for another season of “truth…or..consequences…”

Come on Kent. Wack this moronic crap off the site. Wren is a bore, and a repetative bore! Give him one a week.
Must have been the beautiful urban campus that drew him in
I like the fact that someone brings a sense of reality to this site. Keep it up Wren! Somebody needs to hold the U of M football program accountable for some minimal standards of competing in the Big Ten in football.
Some of these people play very loose and dirty with their language. I think you should give it back to them in the same terms that they talk about you in. This site does not need to have a company line of thought and ideas.
Give it up d_a_c-off:
Ditch this maturi now. He can fire…but never let him hire! Just let him start trying to renew this brewster’s contract again this spring if he dares! ; 0 )
Jimmy is a good quality player and a good get for the U. One of many Moundsview players to play for the Gophers. I am glad to see him hold up the tradition and follow in the footsteps of Anderle and Weber.
For all you recruiting star nerds.
The avg Rivals rating for the 2008 First Team BT All Confernce as voted by the coaches are:
Offense-2.75 stars
Defense-3.25 stars
Look, if you can’t give Brewster three years go away and get out of this blog.
I gave Mason 10 years and even wrote Maturi the year before he got fired and said that I thought he had done enough to deserve an extension. I wasn’t excited about the team or program but Mase had done nothing to be fired.
O.K., so I’m no great football mind. All I know is I am more excited about the Gophers than I have been in a long time.
Now, if there isn’t progress by the end of year three, Brewster shouldn’t be renewed. But goodness golly, we have a world economy on the verge of complete collapse . . . can’t some of you calm down and let the guy have 9 more months?
Sorry, it does not work that way. At the end of next season we MUST NOT decide to not extend. Our program must never again run a coach down to less than a two year contract and ask that coach to recruit.
In ANY case, I do not want Maturi to be making any decisions. He is a proven idiot.
To some of you, two years is a little early to jump ship, I can understand it after year 4 when a coach has a team of his guys, but personally with the recruiting were setting ourselves up to have success, this doesn’t guarentee anything, but to be honest, good recruiting breeds optimism and that’s something this program hasn’t had in awhile.
Yeah: 0-8 Big Ten seasons don’t come alont too often. A perfect throw away for this brewster and some of his MANY high priced coordinators that keep moving along and being flushed down the crapper by this gm/recruiter brewster’s “system.” Ditch macturi now!
