Through the past, not so darkly

OK, I have to admit that I’m wary of this post. The last time I blogged something on the new stadium I was taken to task by some folks sick of the subject.
And yet, here is another stadium-related post.
Tomorrow the University of Minnesota libraries will be unveiling an on-line, interactive website showcasing the history of old Memorial Stadium. The site is http://brickhouse.lib.umn.edu. It will feature photos, live game footage, programs and other artifacts from the school’s archives. You can see blueprints of the original stadium as well as photos of its construction. There will be footage of 28 Gopher games, highlighted by a 1953 ”Game of the Week” TV broadcast that features all-American Paul Giel leading the Gophers over Michigan while handling the ball 53 times on offense.
Meanwhile, a few TCF Bank tidbits:
1. The decision has been made to enclose the concrete facing around the field with brick.
2. The sports business journal is doing a piece on how the Gophers pulled the stadium off, in terms of funding the project. The U will also host reps from Duke and Washington who are coming to see the new stadium and examine how the University managed the project.
3. Two upgraded rooms have been added. The first is a full M Club room that will host former letterwinners. The other is a training table adjacent to the kitchen.
4. There has not been a cancellation from a premium seat holder due to the decision not to serve alcohol.

Good news about the lack of cancellations. Kent, any idea how many premium seats are left to be sold?
yay for bricks!
Wow.. that old scoreboard was TINY!
Let me join those who say - feel free to post more about the stadium. I enjoy the information and appreciate your effort.
I’ll second that notion - I always appreciate any new stadium information you bring to the table.
Ken, the negative posters on your blog are the minority. Most of us read it, enjoy it, and get on with our lives. I don’t want to know what kind of person checks a blog daily about something they don’t care about and then have nothing better to do than complain. They are likely Wisc/Iowa fans anyway, so please ignore them.
Kent thanks for the blog. Don’t feel bad about posting on the stadium. Most of us like to read it.
I for one am excited about the brick. I saw footage of the brick at memorial and thought that the new stadium didn’t look right with exposed concrete instead of brick. This thing is going to stand for a long time and the extra cost is worth it because it will be a distinguishing characteristic to everyone that watches a game on television.
We need news on HAYO, kent, read my lips! My daughter wants to date him so badly.
So, will the brick be put on before Sept. 12th? That would be awesome.
Can’t get enough stadium posts. Keep up the great work. Good to have you back.
Please keep the stadium updates coming. For most of us diehards, we can’t get enough of it until we’re able to set foot inside the stadium itself.
Wren,
I want to date you, we can talk about big ten wins.
