NBC threw a party on the rooftop of the Beverly Hilton. The way things are going ratingswise, maybe they should have held it in the basement.

Lots of stars, including David Hasselhoff, Adam Arkin, John Madden and Alicia Witt were on hand. I ended up having cocktails with the great Masi Oka from “Heroes” late into the evening at the hotel bar. Hoping he snags an Emmy nomination Thursday morning.

During the party, Joey Fatone hosted a live version of “The Singing Bee” with critics taking on stars. Zachary Levi of the new series “Chuck” took top honors.

I get the appeal of the show. It’s great fun to play “guess the lyrics,” but NBC is investing a lot in the show, renewing it for a full season based on the ratings of one episode. I have a feeling the show will crash and burn. What do you think? Will “Bee” be a hit for years to come or just a summer fling?
