Emmy nominations: Who got robbed
Posted on July 19th, 2007 – 11:16 AMBy Neal Justin
Looking over the list of Emmy nods is like going to the dentist. You have to do it, but it’s usually painful. How could “Rome,” “Rescue Me” and “The Riches” not be among the best dramas?
I WAS happy to see Jenna Fischer, Minnie Driver and Masi Oka all get nods (they were all underdogs I cited in my last Sunday column).
What noms excited you the most and who got ripped off?

How was “The Wire” left off of any noms? It’s a travesty that shows like “Boston Public” receive best drama nominations, yet a thought-provoking show like TW didn’t get a single nomination.
Where or where is my beloved ‘Dexter’ on this list???? Michael C. Hall is a standout actor and I can’t believe he wasn’t nominated again! Then again, maybe they have to wait for Season 2?
The Shield, anyone? Great season, and Walton Goggins (Shane) did everything right. I could write for days about his performance. Lost for best drama? Agree on the Wire… I’m just catching up on it now, but it’s an amazing show. I’m going to start watching Dexter soon… heard nothing but good things.
One small thing… Boston “Legal” got the nomination… Boston Public was a great David E Kelley show that was on a few years ago. Boston Legal is a fun show, but that’s about it. I Tivo it, but it’s nothing that should be called one of the best dramas of the year. Spader and Shatner are fun, but they don’t impress me a ton.

I have to add my vote for The Wire but also my beloved — yes, I am a geek — Battlestar Galactica. It is so clear that the Emmy noms are simply about publicity machines and not a genuine reflection of the highest quality programs on all of television. Something tells me the Emmys are run by the same people who give us these super choices for president every four years.
For anyone interested… Season One of ‘Dexter’ comes out in late August, I believe, and the show is also based on a few books. The first book is Darkly Dreaming Dexter - a good, easy summer read. Season 1 reruns are currently being played on Showtime on Sunday nights. Just a quick FYI if anyone wants to get caught up before watching Season 2 this fall! (Can you tell I just love this show? Usually not a TV-head…)
I thought it was interesting that Studio 60 was nominated for best drama casting. I hope it wins, if only to show how Sorkin messed up a show with such a potentially strong ensemble.
I’d have to agree that Boston Legal is not deserving of Best Drama. It really feels like more of a parody of Kelly’s early work than anything substantial.
Where’s Lauren Graham?!? I thought she would earn a “career” Emmy for her work on GG over the years, but then she didn’t even get nominated. Sniff.
Love Jenna Fischer. Love Neil Patrick Harris.
Charlie Sheen again? Are you kidding me? Jason Lee is so much funnier!
Who cares- those shows (evening soap operas I call them) are a waste of time. You people need to get a life.
Boston Public is practically on the level of Scrubs..not to disparage that show but to me both of them are light on drama heavy on the antics.
Also have to throw my props in for The Wire, I don’t think they’ve been handed an emmy yet other than maybe one for writing in the third season.
What’s next maybe an emmy for Jim Belushi for outstanding acting in a comedy?
I’;m glad to see so many of you love “The Wire.” Not only is the best show of last season; it’s one of the top 3 dramas of all time. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that it’ll never get Emmy love. I was hoping “Rome” wouldn’t get the same disrespect. Unfortunately, it did. The biggest shock for me was that “Friday Night Lights” was blown out.
Why are Survivor and American Idol consistently ignored? They are the ground breakers!
I’m surprised no one here has said it - Friday Night Lights! Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton were robbed. Hopefully more people will discover this great show in the fall!
Oops! Just saw your comment on FNL, Neal.
