Island of Misfit Toys, Day 11

What if you threw an all-star party and no stars came?
That was the predicament at The CW’s bash Friday night at which the TV critics were better known names than the network’s actors.
One exception was Chippewa Falls native Amy Pietz, delightful in the upcoming series, “Aliens in America.” She came with no entourage and no attitude, even though she’s one of the CW’s best known names.
Pietz told me she’s still best friends with her “Caroline in the City” co-star, Minnesotan Lea Thompson. In fact, they live across the street from each other.
Not much else to report, but that should change tomorrow. Tonight is the TCA Awards and Alec Baldwin, Mary Tyler Moore and “Sopranos” creator David Chase are all expected to attend. That will be followed by the Alt Awards, a goofy presentation in which critics lovingly spoof each other, a tradition I started a few years back with the venerable Roger Catlin of the Hartford Courant. We don’t get quite the all stars the TCA Awards have, but we have snagged, in the past, Lucy Lawless, Marc Cherry and our bartender. I’ll share the dish on Sunday.
